I noticed that one of my trucks turn less to the left, I checked the stoppers and they seem to be Ok. Could it be something else binding? Steering box?

Like how much less? A full turn or jus a lil bit?

I don't know off the top of my head how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie pop, I mean turns from center to hit the steering stops on an 80. Thinking 2.5 or so?

I'll check tomorrow in an open area at work, I know that I found myself in parking lots doing 2 point turns when going to the left to park the truck. :hmm:

2.5 turns to the right, 1.5 to the left, got to be the stoppers. I'll check as soon as I can.:hmm:

Are the splines bent on the sector shaft? Has the steering box been replaced and not indexed correctly?
Maybe also at the time of a alignment the drag link was miss adjusted wrong?
Good luck.

have you removed the plate that the steering damper is mounted to if so maybe you put it on upside down. not that i ever did that or anything but it happens

A bent drag link can do that. I had one bent so bad that the truck (IH Scout) went straight with full right rudder.

Start taking measurements next week, just eyeballed everything this morning and "looks" fine, I believe this truck had an alignment done, this could had created this problem.

Check your steering box to see if the splines are bent, causing the arm to rotate on the shaft. Also, is the drag link bent or has it been adjusted recently? If there is no other underlying problem, you should be able to adjust the drag link to get the steering box re-centered - then just re-center the steering wheel.

did you ever figure out what this is? my 80 has the same problem, 1.5 to the left vs 2.5 to the right.

I have looked at the whole front end and everything looks where it supposed to be. I'm taking the truck to a steering shop to see if they can figure it out. Like I said earlier, this only happens in one of my 92 Cruisers.:confused:

I took these pictures from the two steering boxes today. The only difference between my two cruisers is the top steering adjustment nut. The top picture is from the one with problems, the bottom picture is from the one with no problems. Maybe here is the problem. The bolt in the second picture protrudes from the nut. The first picture, the bolt is flushed with the nut. Hope someone can shed light on this.:hmm:
