Hey peeps, I have a hdj79 with the 1hdfte engine, the turbo has started to sound like a siren when holding 100 k’s an hour, sort of starts happening trying to hold speed at anywhere over 80k an hour and gets worse as you go faster, but if I put my foot down it boosts up and does what it’s supposed to do, until I back off again to hold a even speed again, anyone know what it might be? Going to put a boost guage on and change the map sensor tomorrow, other than that I’m stuck.

Check the shaft on the turbo for axial and lateral play. That’s the in/out and side to side movement of the turbo shaft.

Yup, early sign of turbo failure. Check it quick before you ger seal leakage and possible runaway !
