Does anyone know how to turn the fuel up on a 3B motor? I am thinking I have to loosen that large lock nut, there seems to be some thread or wire tied here? Anyway I need to turn up the juice, anyone know what size that lock nut is?

Are you sure you need to turn it up? Have you checked your EGT's WHILE pulling HARD?
Just reving the engine or a drive around town won't tell you much. You need to take it for a spin up into the mountains and floor it up the hill. Report back on your EGT's and we'll let you know if you really want to adjust it.
I can get mine up into the red zone or 1250F on my EGT while hitting maximum boost and have not adjusted my fuel.

Well I will do that, I ordered my pyrometer and it did not come with probe so its on the way. this is a turboglide kit, by the way. thanks for the quick reply.

We've found the pics for other 3Bs and this one is not the same as far as I can tell...? It is an 84 BJ42 from canada.. No luck even finding the adjustment - how odd is that?

A Canadian BJ42 has a HAC - that is used to adjust the fuel settings. The large nut is slacked off and you turn the HAC in or out depending on what you want to do. The other units, like BJ60s just have a small threaded piece in where the HAC goes and that is used on those models. I could post a pic of both the BJ42 screw and the BJ60 screw if you need me to.

It is VERY adviseable to have a pyro installed to get the adjustment correct.

Yes if you can post a pic that would be great...! I noticed a big lock nut around the rubber stopper where the EDIC arm stops. . Also on the BJ42, the arm goes way down, it hangs down about 2" lower than the lowest spot on the photos of the BJ60s. I was thinking this large nut would adjust the fuel setting?

here are three pictures for you:

The first two are of two different views and are also of two different engines, but both from BJ60s.

The last photo is from a BJ40 engine (B) but is the same as a BJ42 3B for this discussion.

So, looking at the last photo, you will see the "can" to the right with the sticker on it that says "diesel", this is the HAC. The nut you need to loosen is the one a bit to the left that has the wire threaded through it.

If you back out the HAC (so it moves to the right) you'll increase your fuel. Threading in the HAC will decrease your fuel.

Put a mark on the HAC so that you know how far you have gone one way or the other and keep a note somewhere of what you have done. The real and true amount of fuel (as determined by the FSM) can only be done by removing the pump and bench testing it, so it's at least nice to know where you started from in case you want to go back to the neutral setting.

hth, and your mileage will vary after this discussion... (but so will your power)

Going by memorey, but behind the Hac on the back of the fuel pump is the set screw that adjusts the fuel?

If not I have forgotten.

Its really tight and pretty much guarantee its nothing to do with the Hac.

Andre, the second picture shows a electrical plug, just below should be the adjuster, behind the EDIC motor, tough space but sure thats it.

we ended up adjusting big nut on the altitude compensator. Works great and is noticable.. We only went a 1/4 turn for now until the EGT probe arrives tomorrow.. Looks like we will probably put post turbo for now for ease of install.. Even though I am a pre turbo kind of guy usually :) Thanks again everyone.. Who knew BJ42's have HAC's - cool..

the mirror one sounds like for a bosch pump. On a merc. I have read about it. The bosch pump you have to pull a cover off to adjust the full load fuel setting.
