Anybody out there swap an automatic from a Tundra into a FJ62? My 440 has 300K on the clock and has definitely seen better days...I'm looking to the future on a replacement/swap.

That's not going to be a direct bolt in bellhousing-wise and even with a custom bellhousing those transmissions are electronically controlled so you also need the ECU, which is going to be lost without the original engine :). There is at least one aftermarket control box that might make this work (search the 80s section for Kirk's LT1 swap thread). But by the time you do a custom bellhousing and controller you could get one of Rodney's Extreme A440 rebuilds.

If you're looking for an engine swap too you can swap the Tundra or UZJ100 4.7 V8 and auto in. There is at least one thread on this in the 60 section and another by Waggoner in Hardcore. And Slee Off Road has done this swap into both 80s and 60s.

As a side note the transfer case in the Tundra, I believe, has a centered rear output. The transfer case behind the same V8 and auto in the 100 series has a passenger side output. I believe that you'll need a rear sump oil pan from a 100 series as well to fit our solid front axle trucks.

Yow - I think I would rather go with a full SBC swap or just get my transmission rebuilt. The engine shows no signs of slowing down...but I think the transmission is counting the days. Thanks for the reply.
