So after the trip to Hot Springs, the GMRS units were far better than CB. I was using a handheld and I had better range and clearer transmissions than I ever did with the cobra cb. I will be using gmrs going forward. CB is too unreliable

Very cool! I received my FCC Registration Number, now I just need to decide which units to buy.

That’s gonna be the route I go as well, I already have 8 watt HAM handhelds for emergencies but they also operate on GMRS.

Was it a pretty easy process getting the number?

Yes, it went pretty quick, the following information is from Andrew McCleskey:
Go here first and get a FREE FRN Number:

Then go here and follow these instructions:

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Log in to ULS Online Filing with your FCC Registration Number (FRN) and password.
2.On the left-side of the screen, click Apply for a New License.
3.From the drop down box, select the Radio Service for the new license.
4.Click Continue to navigate through the application.
5.Sign your application and click Submit Application.

The FCC license is good for 10 years.

Thanks Rod! I got it completed and processed.

Hope you and your family have been well, I don’t get on fakebook much anymore. I’ve been thinking about joining TTR lately, I need to get out on some trails with you guys.

We have been using Midland handheld GMRS since 2018. It is so much better than CB, that I removed the CB and bought a Wouxun KG-1000G base unit for inside the truck.
I figure if I need to use CB, I will use a handheld CB.
