Truck-mounted awnings

I think because they have a retail store in NM.

Just ordered the Ironman 2.0 X 2.5 awning from Sierra Expeditions. It was a little more than the ARB but was the only one I could confirm with 2m length on the truck and 2.5m length extended away from the truck. Maybe I'll get it sometime next week. They claimed that it was in stock at the distributor in NJ.

Finally

Took nearly a month but I finally got my Ironman awning from Sierra Expeditions. The main reason for the delay was that SE ordered the wrong awning from the distributor, so it took 2X as long to get the correct one.

Something that was not advertised but is a bonus is that it came with an LED light strip with a 12V accessory plug to power it. It's attached to the frame piece that attaches to the truck.

Another detail not advertised is that it came with two mounting brackets, basically big, stainless steel L-brackets. The problem is they are only 1" wide so making them work with the round Yakima load bars won't work without some additional adapter plate and U-bolt. It's ok because I got some other, wider L-brackets made that I will use to mount it with U-bolts to the Yak bars.

They got a LED strip? Where are the pics? :D

Very cool Marc! I like the LED's and your awning is a lot bigger than the prize from 100's in the hills. It should be very useful.

My Thule bars work well with the 1" mounting brackets provided by CVT. sounds similar to the ironman mounting brackets.

Are you going to go back and add another 12v receptacle for your new LED strip?

I opened the bag and pulled it all out to make sure it was in good shape when it came in. I'm going to mount it and set it up this weekend when I have more time to do it. I'll do it a few hours before sunset so I can get some photos with the LEDs on too.

I've got plenty of 12V ports available when this thing will be in use so I don't think I'll add any more. This unit actually came with a 12V socket that clamps to the battery terminals (but it was busted) I may just go straight to the battery instead of through the cig lighter or accessory power circuit. I don't know how much current the strip draws so it may be safer to go directly to the battery. The cord has a fuse holder inside the 12V plug.

The on-truck dimension is 2.0 meter (~78") and the extended out dimension is 2.5 meters (~98")

I bet that light strip pulls a low current, I wouldn't worry about it going through a cig lighter. The manufacturer probably added a "straight to the battery option" for those that only have 12v ports that work with the key on.

My awning is the 55". It does extend out to 2.5 meters. That must be standard...I think I'll add a strip of lights like your ironman :)

Good luck with the install!

Finally

Finally got it installed last weekend and got around to downloading some pics
