Did you go in via the new road from the east or from the airport?
I got about as far as you did, top of Grey Mesa, a couple of years ago.
I was on a bicycle, by myself, and looking at how far I had to go to the end, then having to come all the way back to my camp...I even wondered about the possibility of hitching a ride on a boat to Halls...It was an easy decision to turn around.
I do remember looking at that really narrow, off-camber spot on the shelf road up to the mesa and was glad I was on a bike and not driving a truck!

We went in via the signed road they've built to the east that hooks up with the old Nokai Dome Rd.

The shelf road is actually pretty simple if the conditions are nice and dry. They weren't and the snow/ice cover made the difference to keep us down below the mesa.

Regards.

Onur: Nice write-up, photos and memories stirred from our past HITR trips together!

Yeah, tell me about it Dan.

The whole time I was thinking it would be way cool if Dan, Andy, Tom, Alvaro, and Ali were with us. With a small group we flew through the trail.

and not to mention Dan's killer margaritas.....mmmmm good and potent!!

Count me in for the family trip, Dave. Get ahold of me when the time comes.

Now hold on, I've seen ali loopy from just smelling an open container. If we weren't talking about dan I would question this data point...
