Hi,
1974 FJ40, trying to get the c-clip on the cam isn't giving me joy. My next inclination is to take a 30MM socket, sit the c-clip inside and hit it with the BFH, however I thought I'd ask here before applying force...

Whats the trick to getting an OEM cam snap ring/c-clip on the cam end?

Thanks!

A lock ring pliers.

Neither of mine seem well-suited to this style of snap ring? The prongs on the pliars slip off on the interior diameter due to the angle of the clip gap cut? Maybe I am being too gentle...if snap ring pliars are indeed how these are done then OK. On other motors I have seen some very different methods for weird snap rings.

For example....want to get a piston c-clip into an aircooled 911 motor...

you need a "c-clip injection device" of some kind, stomski, broom handle or otherwise...

Lock ring plier is for lock rings (on front hubs and cam gear)

Snap ring pliers as you have found, are for snap rings (with eyes).

Different tools for different fasteners.

Got it on, thanks. I know it must have seemed like a silly question to a resident expert but by the same token, if someone posted up on PelicanParts.com that they were trying to get wrist pin c-clips on with a pair of snap ring pliars I would happily step in and save them the frustration of an impossible task ;)

Thanks all
