Needed to replace the TRE's so I figured I might as well go with some heavy duty links/rods etc.

TRE's: Cruiser Outfitters $97, excellent service.
Rods: Front Range $59ea. Jam nuts $5 each, excellent service, very nice job by the way.

Check out these HD muthas:

Looks like I'll be doing a little wrenching tomorrow.

I would of painted them yella! Gotta do mine, but thinking of buds built. Whats the diff between the two? Those look beefy.

I think BB's are $100ea. That made my decision.

Finished

Old TRE's came off relatively easy, except for the pitman arm. Had to get fairly involved with the sledge on that one.

Here's the tool I used for removal. Barely big enough for the job IMO.

Old vs New:

Installed:

Results:

Much firmer steering feel, no more wheel wobble, no more pulling to the right, a hell of alot easier to adjust. If you need new TRE's I highly recommend HD rods as well.

cant you double up on the jam nuts? Just wondering as this department is not my forte.

I personally don't run HD rods because of the loosening of the jamb nuts and the fact that you need to shorten the rod to make room for the nut verses a rod that has the factory style clamping setup. A shorter rod means less thread engagement with the TRE. So further shortening it for another nut wouldn't make sense.

On the ones that I've seen loosen the installer had use anti seize on them which is the norm up here in the north east. I would suggest checking the nuts after every outing and during an oil change. It only takes a couple of minutes.

What do you folks think about the angle of the TREs relative to each other? After replacing my rods and ends, and having the alignment checked at the shop, the TREs at either end of the tie rod are ~45 degrees off from each other. Get what I'm describing? I can't decide if this matters or not.
