Hi Guys,

I'm going to build a trayback for my HZJ79. Does anyone have pictures of the underside of the tray? I need to see what kind of supports are used for an aluminum type tray.

Anyone have pictures?

Thanks

Gimme some time and Ill see if I can crawl under a factory tray or take my spy camera to the factory where they make them:D.

Basically they are the same as a house floor with bearers and joists;)

Well here they are. Its not my favourite tray but they are all built fundamentally the same.
Louis if you need any of the full size originals I can email them to you;)

I would probably use some thicker tube for the tie down bars on the side. A good truckers hitch can pull thise out of shape.
The tray also has some triangle bits( with the mud flap chains through them) to support the outer edges of the tray. A few more of them wouldn't cost much.

OMG - that is a nice truck!

Thanks for the pics- I can figure it out from here now. What is the payload on those trays? They dont look that tough - but all I really plan putting in the back is maybe 1000 pounds max from now on - just the odd time. Yamaha Rhino or my snow mobile.

That flooring aluminum looks weak, seems to be warping. Will probably use a good and thick diamond plate instead. The ribbing of the entire floor will be hard to replicate as I dont think I can get that material around here - will have to figure that out.

Thanks again.

They are all supposed to be able to take the load a cruiser can carry, however the alloy trays need the load evenly spread.
They dont normally put the alloy trays on cruisers,I was surprised the 1st one I looked at had one.
Where it appears to be warping was where a large tool box was bolted and a reversing accident has pulled the floor up a little.
This vehicle was probably a plumbers or electricians work vehicle.
The floor and ribbing is all one piece. You might need to replicate it somehow as plain diamond plate will get sag between supports.

They also had this super clean '04 HDJ78 with the forward facing rear seat.Im not sure if you can get this option still as they are now selling the 76 series

Im planning on going alloy myself as the steel tray is heavy and I really only want it for camping

unless you are in a hurry i can give you a run down on the one i built for the PZJ75... it was light and strong. the cross beams were channel and then 2 2X6 alum tubes were run lengthways to alow for the full length drawer system...

cheers

the "Tractor" is coming to Ontario with me so some wheeling will be required...

Eric,
a bit of a drive to you is what?

a bit of a drive is from Calgary to Pismo beach or for some it is Alaska from Calgary.

we have one gent that drives from Moosimin Sask to wheel with us in Calgary (13 hrs one way) and he does it twice a year.

i have a trailer queen so as long as i can find the time i am there...

Start Hi Jack ..

Rosco .. 68,xxx aus $$$ . ?

end hi jack ..

Closer to $69000 .There is a lot of grumbling over the price because it is mainly old technology.
However they are walking out the door regardless of the price. My dealer never has a new one for more than a few days before it is sold.
Some say there is an 8 month waiting list if you want your preferred list of options.

Right now it is the darling of the motoring journos and 4wd fraternity.
