Gearing up for our great trip out west, and on the fence about taking our pup. Wanted to know if anyone had feedback on how their pets who reside in the ~1,000 ft range fair at ~8,000 ft when traveling west?

What complicates it for us is that he is a Bulldog... the type of dogs that essentially breathe through a straw 24/7. He's very active, and in good shape for what he is, but again didnt know how we should proceed with this.

Thanks for any info in advance!

We live at sea level...Ok 38' and we travel to the Sierra every year for a few weeks and stay at 7800' and go up to 11,000' nearly every day. We do this all three dogs, Viszla, German Shorthair Pointer and a Jack Russel, and they have no problems.

We go from sea level to 7800' in one day, and when we arrive they are excited and want to run, play and explore right off, but we try to give them a day to acclimate a little. Buy the elevation has never bothered any of our dogs over the last 30+ years.

I don't see a problem

We picked up our black mouth cur pup in Idaho at 12 weeks and he did up and down 2k feet several times on the way home just fine.. .. same as humans they just breath harder and have less energy the higher you go. but in a truck not out exercising he should be fine.. We live at 4500ft and go up to 10k to hike and they do fine, ( BMC, mastiff and Viszla) just make sure you have plenty of water.. my wifes 130lb masiff does fine, inhales alot of food and water afterward though..
