Actually it is none of them wives tail, there is no known proof of any of the Asin 440/442 343 used in a bus

I guess it’s not actually a transit bus. But Dyna’s and Coasters. Although I do need to correct my statement. I guess the coaster did get A343’s, according to Beno. But, I’m definitely no authority so... meh.

Well if you can figure out a way to do it please do by all means but we started a thread here to see if it could be done probably 2 years ago and it never panned out.

@richardlillard1 It has better gearing on 1st, better 5th (has five gears instead of four as in the A442F) and gives you faster shifts

@scottryana It can be done on mine, not sure about yours...1HZ...1HD-T...1HD-FT and 1HD-FTe share the same block (basically) over here A750F came with 1HD-FTe, so bellhousing should work from my A442F to the A750F...so now is a matter of computer...easy done when looking for it...go to COMPUSHIFT Sport and Pro and buy it...then just use the thing

I thought the 442 was a bus and then the 343 is in some short bus :meh::meh::meh: I looked at the Compushift and it runs you about $1500 with no display . The Microsquirt is about $400 and would take some, but not a ton of work

Micro squirt makes a fine stand alone

They make all kinds of different sizes of coasters. It wasn’t until I read one of Benos posts from his factory tour that I saw the A343 part. First time I’d heard that. But yeah... the others are common knowledge. Evidently even 22r’s were used.

I think I read a similar thread @beno does have the knowledge, great guy to have around

So I’ve been trying to figure out which one is better.
Typically when a manufacturer changes its for the better but some swear by the heavy duty a442 claiming it’s indestructible and therefore the better of the two. Then I’ve heard the 343 argument that it is lighter and robs less power from the 4.5 and is therefore smoother with a much better throttle response.

What say ye, fellow mudderz?
I get to drive both on a regular (but unfortunately not frequent) basis. Both trucks with S/C and low TC gears.
In low range, the 1-2 upshift of the A442 will try and snap your neck. 2nd gear start on the A343 for the win.

Shouldn't have posted in a bench racing thread anyways... carry on.

I wasn’t “triggered.” Almost every response you’ve had in this thread has been arrogant and cavalier. It wasn’t tomato-tomatoe, they’re the same thing. You didn’t even have the same general area. I made a factual point which you refuted, wrongfully, then turned around and completely contradicted your own statement a few posts later. That’s how misinformation gets spread. It’s the same on many threads you comment in. Gets old and doesn’t add any value.
