Transmission Removal (1 Viewer)

I have a 78 FJ40 and need to replace the rear seal on my 2F. Is it possible to take the transmission out without taking the tranny cover off inside the cab? I have an aqualu body and the tranny hump is a real pain to take on and off. How far will the tranny have to be pulled back?

no dice, unless you want to cut the cover. another option is to drop the rear motor mounts and tip the engine, but pulling the cover is less work.

The tranny has to be moved back far enough to get everything out. I had to move my SM420 back about 5" to remove the clutch fork, etc.
