I'm looking at purchasing a 1985 FJ60 with a four speed manual transmission. The engine is stock. I was wondering if it is more beneficial to change to a five speed. The truck will be more of an expedition vehicle than a rock crawler. It will also be used for traveling around the intermountain west on camping trips and on the freeway.

Any suggestions on what five speed I should be looking for in reference to ease of hook-up?

Thanks in advance,

Murph

H55F is the best five speed for a FJ60 with a 2F. Depending on the production month it could be a straight bolt in.

I put a H55F in my 85 FJ60 and have never regretted it. It makes highway driving much more comfortable for you and the rig.
