My 1998 turbo diesel 100 series tranny has finally given up. I have pulled it out which was quite good fun and it will be on its way to Rodney for an extreme makeover. 140000km's and my only drama. I guess I got one of the dud Toyota trannies.

Our standards are high. If it was a GM SUV you'd have the oldest tranny on the board and be accused of driving like a grandma.

Details and pics ? Where did it fail ?

TD gets the A343 same as the 2UZ?

Sorry to hear about that. Where are you at and how much is it going to cost you to fix it?

I live in Western Australia way up north so transporting the gearbox 8000km's adds to the cost but all up it will cost me $4000. I'm getting my a442f tranny overhauled at Wholesale Automatics in Victoria. I decided to get the a442f Extreme transmission so I look forward to testing it out. My tranny has been playing up since January but I have only been doing short trips with it knowing it was going to break. I live to far away from any transmission shop to just drive in and have it looked at and in all honesty I wouldn't trust any of the workshops around here with my cruiser.

Hopefully here are some photos

What you may have, is the known problematic, pre-june-2001, converter, where the clutch disintegrates and kills the tranny.
There is a TSB titled "ATM JUDDER - new Torque Converter CP1018_1_1", and says "Torque Converter has been modified to improve driveability such as reducing judder during hard braking."
The first VIN with the new converter is JTEHC05J904005603.
Old converter part# is 32000−60150.
Well, this TSB is valid for Europe at least....

Yeah I can't wait to bolt it back in and test it out. The car won't be on the road to long before it gets a birthday. First on the list is a diff drop-down bracket and suspension mods I have yet to decide upon. Keep the AHC or junk it. Ultimately I would like to mate a standard diesel rigid axle frond end then go for a 3 inch lift but I'll play around with the IFS for a while. I'm going to get rid of the alley bar and go with either ARB or TJM steel unit with scrub bars. Then I will connect a D-tronic performance chip to give it some more torque. From 430Nm to 525Nm. Maybe even a bigger exhaust. Anyway I'll let you know how the extreme a442f runs shortly.
