So I have the same problem as many, an over-filled tranny and oil on my throwout bearing which appears to be from the transmission. The clutch is still operating fine and the oil has not reached the pressure plate but is indeed doing a nice job of lubricating the throwout bearing (hopefully is a side benefit). Strangely, my transfer was by no means empty. I assume the seal is blow at the front of the tranny but I don't have the time or money or energy to get into changing that now. Installing the by-pass hose from tranny to transfer and with the correct amount of oil added/subtracted, but not changing the seals, what are my chances of running like this for a while? Is it a sure thing to get oil on the clutch disc? Is the leak surely destined to get worse and worse or could the by-pass hose alleviate enough pressure to slow or stop the leak?
Thanks all...

The bypass hose is an all time fave of lazy/cheap Australians. I have seen them years old.

…gonna try to fashion my own as I'm like a submarine sandwich in New Orleans…a Po' Boy. But I appreciate the reachin' out.

Hey Shipmag, that's good of you, thanks. I did order a pair of banjo bolts, now in my possession and they do fit (got the specs from one of the threads on here). Couldn't locate easily the correct tubing at the local auto store so have that on order. It won't look pretty but that's not a real concern for my truck. Should work. Hey, do you know if I'm doomed having leaks at both the front and back of the tranny/transfer or can I live with it and just keep an eye on the oil levels?

When I did a bypass I had all the pieces on hand leftover from another project but Ebay is good for fittings, and it used about 8" of hose.

My seals aren't leaking but I figure that the bypass hose doesn't hurt anything and provides a way to put any repair on my schedule instead of the truck's. Maybe it even work to equalize pressures in both trans and transfercase to remove one way that seals leak, IDK.

Nice work, honk. I'm just going to hose clamp the 1/2 inch fuel/oil grade hose directly onto the male end of the banjo bolts….I don't see why that won't be enough. If someone knows differently please speak up. It won't look so pretty but an extra fitting there just seemed extra money and nice to look at…kind of out of place on my rust bunny. I have to keep with the junkyard dog aesthetic.

It's covered by the factory skidplate anyway.

I ain't got one of those….and never had one. Never knew they existed until I joined this forum 3 years ago. I run naked. I never had a clutch cover, either, but got one after seeing them on this thread. Seems my truck had had a rough life before I got it.

I had an oil cooler hose from an '82 Turbo Volvo laying around, cut it to size, attached it to my E-bay banjo bolts and secured it with regular wire clamps. No problems whatsoever especially since the male ends of the banjos are ribbed and, really, there is no high pressure present within the transmission/transfer.

Sweet, that's good to know. My thinking exactly.
