You need a puller to push the shaft out of the t case
It bolts on where the round tin cover on back of t case is after you remove the big nut and spacer
I made a puller out of a spare cover by drilling a hole welding a nut to it and using a piece of threaded rod to push it out

Did you remove the cap on the back and remove the nut from the transmission tailshaft? It's clear your transmission is coming apart. You will need either rebuilt or replace your transmission.

Based on your picture you did not remove the nut off the end of the shaft.

Geez! Hit that nut with a big air impact wrench and it'll spin off fine. You have a HUGE mess in front of you though since the transmission has now partially disassembled itself. With nut off, you should be able to separate the cases. I've never seen anything like that

Just to be 100% clear that nut is on a shaft that is part of the transmission and is a must to be removed to take the transmission and transfer apart.

Yes, that shaft is the transmission output shaft. It runs through the transfer case and both the PTO and transfer case input gear are mounted on. Remove the nut and the spacer directly under it. Then use a puller or smack the transfer case with a soft faced dead blow hammer several times to remove it from the transmission output shaft. Both the PTO and input gears will fall out after that

Unfortunately as others have stated, you're in for a transmission disassembly and reassembly also at this point

i didn't know i had to remove that nut prior to removing the transfer case, my fj is a work in progress, its a project car
