I've had gear noise in my t-case for pretty much at long as i can remember. I have had this 80 for a few years but LOW got very little use in the beginning. I think the PO never used LOW at all. Its not a grinding sounds just more like a whine.

When I purchased it - it had a sized VC so i took that out. Keep up to date on changing the fluid and it always looks good.

Could this be from the LOW gear still not being broken in from hardly getting used? or what else could be causing this? the noise doesn't happen at all in HIGH.

Not likely but 4low is not synchronized so there's some whine associated during 4low operation. I suggest hooking up with your local landcruiser club and checking out other 80s for a side by side comparo.

okay cool - yeah i rode in another 80 a few weeks ago and his was quiet as a church mouse, also has many many hours on LOW. his thought was that maybe since mine hasnt been used alot theres no wear.

hmm, wonder what's going inside of Tcase. Might be time for a 3:1 low range? ;)
