Transfer case experts - quick question

These 2 pieces were riding on the transfer case output shaft when I removed the cover to replace the rear seal. What do they do? When I pulled them off the spacer had the beveled edge facing away from the transfer case - is that the correct orientation?

Top component with the beveled edge is a spacer. The orientation with the beveled edge out is correct based on what I've read.

The other is the worm drive gear for you speedometer.
