I talked about this with John, not sure if others heard, at our last breakfast and I was thinking of doing this next summer, hoping fuel prices will be cheaper. I was TDY while in the Air Force to Goose Bay/Happy Valley back in the late 70’s. Back then you could only get there by plane (C130 for me) or boat (in the summer) and when I found out about this road opening up, I have want to do it. I will have to be in Chicago in May for a graduation and thinking of heading out after that.
My thoughts where stops along the way and then over to Newfoundland island, maybe a visit to France for lunch, (yes the island of St Pierre and Miquelon is a French island) and then down and watch the tide change of the Bay of Fundy and then start heading home.
This will be a very long trip and there are still parts that are gravel roads and I read about 450 miles between fuel stops, if they are open.
I am guessing it will be a 2 month, give or take, trip with stops. I normally plan a long over night stop (1-2) every 6-7 days to relax, long hot shower and laundry, maybe even a hotel and meal nice meal out instead of cooking, but that can be decision the. Length of each day candy pad on Hugo and where we’re at. People going make will make the decision on this.
I was thinking of next year because of fuel cost right now and I am currently looking for a house and have a physical in late June, interested people thought?
You can do a search on the two highways, but here is a link https://www.newfoundlandlabrador.co...ion-51-travelling-the-quebec-labrador-highway
