I just drained the the oil out of my transmission-sm465 & toy transfercase and the transmission oil looked like 90wt (brown) and the transfercase was a dark army green. I expected them to be the same. first change for me. anybody have an idea what this green stuff is? thanks.

Old oil.

Install new 90W gear oil and be done with it.

Have you drained the front axle gear oil yet?

Absolutely no way of knowing whatsover...either same oil somehow contaminated in one the other or both, or different oils put in at same or different times. Not helpfull I know, sorry.

As stated, change it and be done. Set your own new baseline.

No need to replace the rear diff cover gasket unless it is leaking. I use OEM, PM cruiserdan.

Toyota part number for cover gasket is 42183-35010

Front does not have a cover. :)

Just drain the oils from the 24mm drain plugs in the axles and call it good.

From what I've heard it's a good idea to make sure you can get the fill plug out before you drain any fluids.
It's also a good idea to replace the crush washers on the fill and drain plugs at each oil change.
