Im reinstalling the bearing retainer on my SM420 with a new oil lip seal. Should I lube the seal and shaft with (lithium, synthetic moly) grease or with a light coat of gear oil?

I understand taping the splines is a good practice?

Anything else I should look out for?

Thanks for the hep!

Sadly I didn’t get any responses. I came across the following article that said to use an “oil resistant silicon” on a new transfer case seal. Does that mean use an RTV Silicone like a grey RTV?

So again I ask for advice on what is best to use on a new lip seal: Lithium grease, oil or (now) RTV.

I assume the nose itself, where the clutch release bearing collar rides, should have a light coat of grease.

The grease resistant silicon is for the outer edge of the seal to prevent leaks between it and the trans. Just use a good oil or grease on the rubber lips so that it is not a dry seal against the shaft.
