Well at least I know why my 37 year old 3 speed tranny sounds like a Sherman tank in 1st & Reverse:bang: lol. Now to find bearings for my spare. Just thought I would share.

Thanks for viewing,

The noise you hear has more to do with bearings and nothing to do with the chipped teeth on the gear. Those will only make make noise while shifting into gear. Years of grinding into gear is what causes that. One of the advantages of having a full syncro transmissions

The gear oil in there is actually new oil. It does look as if it is full of water but it is a high grade 140 weight. However the tranny full of water a few times lol.

The tranny was flushed before obviously because when I drained it not one tiny piece of metal was to be found. Believe it or not the bearings seemed to be smooth as silk when I rotated the input shaft and seeming no play and does not sound too bad in 2nd and 3rd but 1st and reverse omg! Finding a full Syncro tranny via 4 speed is very difficult here unless you can find an old LC Fire truck as a friend of mine did. Very few 4 speeds laying around, most are still in use.
