Hi,
Iv'e got this annoying problem with my trailer lights.....with everything shut off I still have very faint light in both trailer led lights. I'm using Stones/Lowenbrau Trailer Lights Logic Circuit & Step Down Voltage Converter setup.
Any help will be greatly apprieciated.

Did you ground the relay coils (24V) from the tail/turn/and brake light wires separately from the ground for the trailer wire (12V) harness? Sometimes weird things happen when you share grounding points between the two systems.

I would also add that if the connections were made as outlined in the diagram...it "should" work as it was designed to.

Which lights on the trailer are showing faint voltage when the vehicle is off? Might be worthwhile to also check that relay and make sure everything is up to spec on it.

Ya,I did ground everything directly to the 12 volt negative.....I was wondering about that. I never noticed it before until I inststalled the led lights, it seems to be the turn/brake lights are causing the fault. I also think I may have found a connection between my slow battery drain even with out the trailer not connected, is it possible that the alternator/regulator is grounding out? Sometimes when I start the vehicle, both turbo lights stay on and the voltage meter is stuck in the way down position, for up to 5 miniutes even with higher rpm. Could this cause the led lights to light?
I also connected a 12 volt brake controller using a seperate relay, I know this sounds like alot of relays but the system works great and a 24 volt brake controller wasn't available. Thanks for the help.

I know this seems really strange, but could you just try and go direct to chassis ground for the 12V ground and see if anything changes? This is the ground on the trailer wire harness, right? Thanks.

Everything works as it should otherwise?

Thanks again for the reply, the problem has fixed it self for now, next time it acts up I'll try to ground it that way.Would you recommend a switch to the 12 volt relay feed wire so the relays aren`t working when not in use? The whole circuit has been installed 6 months ago and has been working great.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "12V relay feed wire so the relays aren't working when not in use"? The relays should be 24V and fed by you tail lights.

If you mean the 12V wire coming in from your converter and being appropriately diverted by the 24V relays to power your 12V trailer lights...then no, you shouldn't need to put an inline switch in...but it won't hurt anything to do so either.

When you share ground points between 12V and 24V systems something funny seems to happen with the way current flows and causing weird things to happen sometimes. I've come across this once installing an alarm system and hooking up the light flash relay which is ground controlled from the main steering column harness. Good luck.
