For sure. I have stocked up in the past on consumables (like a case of oil filters, CV snap rings, grease caps, etc) but I have skipped a bunch of sales lately and only order when I need something and can wait a bit.Nothing like a "sale" to make folks just buy stuff.
Agreed, lots of the lightweight/rubber pieces I’ve sourced from Impex/PartSouq cheaper. It’s shipping the big tickets that still hit the wallet.Think big ticket items like CV axles, brake booster assembly, steering rack, control arms etc.
I bought one "just in case". 3 days after ordering my MC failed and dumped all fluid. Fun fact...Trying to decide if I should preventatively swap my brake booster. Believe mine is original (2005) with 200kmiles on it. No issues at all yet. Looks like I could get one for $1K on sale. Unsure if this is unwarranted at this point.
Destroyed due to collision caused by inoperative brakes?I am ordering one, even though mine hasn't given me any trouble. Brakes failuer on these trucks is actually very common and I have seen a couple of trucks compeletely destryoed due to the booster failure.
This is one of the reasons I bought my particular LX. Happened to the previous owner. Luckily it was at the stop sign next to his house. Had it all replaced at Toyota about 1.5 years ago. New master cylinder, hard lines and everything. Almost $4K job. One less thing for me to worry about.I replaced my brake booster as preventative maintenance, using one of the the prior 25% off sale.
No regrets, Peace of mind.
Craig’s mishap was the result of a leaking brake line, not a failed brake booster.Yes. @OwnerCS was one of them. The pictures are truly difficult to look at.
I was considering ordering the booster and pump assembly since they went down in price, and specially since these sales started, but didn't know how to go about it. Listen to the old school mechanics that I learned from as a kid, that said "If it ain't broken don't touch", or to the forums that make you spend too much on unnecessary stuff.
Every one of these sales was used for big items that were needed, including axles, control arms, steering rack.. but I kept skipping the brake assembly.
Until today!
My unit gets the fluid dark within hours after a flush, 3rd flush since I got the 100 5-6 years ago..
One of my brake lines started to show rust bubbles right next to the pump connection too, didn't want to risk it so ordered the line, booster as a preventative repair for a 290k miles unit, and some Toyota fluid. $1100 all in. Too much for a PM, but pretty good for the peace of mind when I'm with my kids pretty much everywhere I go. Dealing with this issue in Florida's weather, in the middle of nowhere on a holiday weekend can ruin anybody's day, and's mood too.
Hope it's the last big $ item.... after the paint job.. and after the windshield reseal.. and starter. ...
Yeah, no idea why there are several parts that won't pop up as correct fit to our cars, so we have to hunt their part #s elsewhere and plug into the Toyota Part web. Same with my steering rack. Very hard to search without calling in.What Part Number are you ordering for the Brake Booster? 47960-60010 is showing an MSRP of $2483.74. Regular online price of $1717.19 (31% off MSRP) and then with 25% sale, it comes to around $1287.89. Curious if the price was raised since earlier this week.
EDIT: I think I found the right P/N: 47050-60043, this one is the full assembly with new reservoir and is listed lower. ($1702.89 MSRP --> $1370.65 (20% off MSRP) and then with 25% sale, it comes to around $1027.99 + applicable tax which applies to me since I live about 20 minutes from this dealer.
