PS Bracket

Welcome,

You need to get a bracket/mount. i got mine from JT Outfitters.
There are others out there. It is pretty simple install. Can be done in a few hours.

Try the search there are many threads about this.
Also look in the Technical Links there are some in there.

Use "minitruck power steering" as search terms, or look up in the FAQ's and tech data collections of this site. This project might be the most heavily discussed modification here - lots of info available about every aspect.

You came to the right place, in other words. If I may welcome you.........:flipoff2:

Welcome.

Good luck!

You can search (wdorry) or (dorry) on this board to read feedback on my brackets.
I have both brackets to do the Mini truck gearbox and
the Saginaw P/S pump. That includes all the mounting
hardware,spacers and adjusting arm.
They are $95.00 each plus shipping. If you buy both
they are $180.00 plus shipping.
Send me your address and what you want and I will
email you a total.
You can see pictures at the below web site and a good
post on ih8mud. Thanks

I like Romer's write up in the FAQ. Lots of nice pics.

I'm thinking about using Lance's bracket from Iron Pig Offroad, but haven't decided yet.

HTH.
IMO - Dorry's brackets are the nicest for the money, but he only makes the saginaw pump bracket. I'm going with Lance's new mini pump bracket on my conversion - laser cut and bent with powder coat for $40 ... can't beat that with a stick. I've got a Dorry pedestal for the box on the way -

Should have pics in a week or so :)

Sag will provide more "assist" than a toyota PS pump will.

yeah I was told it is really underpowered on the fj because it was made for the little pickups.

Sounds backwards to me, as PS in FJ40 preceded the existance of the solid axle mini-trucks.

FWIW.

IMHO, the FJ40 OEM PS is weak because it was intended to turn narrow, 28 inch diameter tires, and to fit in the same push-pull configuration used for the manual box.

Doesn't work any better on the mini-trucks than it does on the FJ40.

That said, I'm putting a OEM PS setup on my FJ40. How bright am I?

OEM is the best i would think. Awsome. DO they sell the oem pumps still and everything to convert your oldy from toyota?

Would be completely dependant on the intended use of the vehicle.

Ask Bailey how much he is enjoying his OEM power steering set-up on his 40 right about now....

I used Bill Dorry's brackets for the pump and the box. Came with instructions, does not use head bolts as a mount, plus he is a Cruiserhead and a very
nice guy.
On my Saginaw pump, I used a pulley from a Volvo 240DL and the pulley allows for the use of the wider belt. (Thanks Charlie)
It is a great upgrade from Armstrong steering and is generally accepted for light to moderate wheeling and up to 35" tires. If you have ANY thoughts about going with larger tires or more serious wheeling, just do the Saginaw conversion. That is what you should ask Bailey about!!!!
