Yep, there seems to be a current, at least in the US, to take away the right for people to do their own repairs and to keep the information necessary to make your own servicing, proprietary, in order to force you to go to the dealer for service.

Check this site: RightToRepair.org - Right To Repair Coalition 2009

Your only alternative is to get the Toyota EPC and install it on your machine, check it out, it's available from many sources, but it's a large download even by broadband standards (4.4 GB for the 2009 EPC).

Guys, use a proxy not situated in North Amerika. Tested OK this morning with firewall filter

Edit: thanks for those outside of the evil empire's influence sphere for letting us know the site works in other parts of the world. You've got your solution right here folks: use a foreign proxy

Unfortunately in early December of '09 toyodiy.com no longer provides the diagram. Their reason is because Toyota Motor Sales has been harassing their ISP.

This is understandable. I FULLY support Toyota Motor Sales decision.

We, the consumers, are actually the source of the problem. It's really hard to run business in today's world knowing there are so many Mr and Mrs Sue Happy out there, these are people who like to sue other people and trying to cash in big $$.

Toyota must protect itself from too much liability. Can you just imagine if one of those diagrams turn out to be misinformed but customer proceed with fixing the car only at the end the wrong part(s) cause mishaps, injuries or even deaths?

Yup you guess right! LAWSUIT !

I am sick of hearing people trying to sue companies and get big $$ this is rampant especially in a country like The United States of Amerika. I am not sure how it's like in other countries.

You remember how some old lady suing Mc Donald's for the coffee being too hot and won million of dollars in settlement?

It's COFFEE for crying out loud. It's supposed to be hot!

Gaaaaaawd ! *shaking head in disbelief*

    Only in Amerika....!

Yes, only in a decadent empire like the United States of Amerika do schools produce 10 times as many lawyers as engineers. Did you know that Amerika has the largest number of lawyers per capita in the world? No wonder is that country in decline, they spend all their time and money arguing about problems instead of actually fixing them. And when people actually do things they get sued!!!

But they aren't alone with this obsession with legalese. Just look north of the border, it isn't much better here. Just look at the numbers of civil servants we have, it's been said that Qu├ębec, one of the poorer provinces of the 40th economy in the world, has more paper shufflers that the fifth richest jurisdiction in the world, Califiornia!!! When I think American complain about California bureaucracy... They haven't tried setting up a business here!!!

As for the abuses stemming from the Rule of Lawyers (because this is exactly the world we live in... No one saw it coming, but here it is, a world controlled by powerful lawyers), just look at what almost happened here, to this guy who dared catch and restrain a shoplifter by himself!!!

The problem with selling products / goods these days is that we never know what the persons / consumers on the other end are using them for.

We can build things water-proof, we can build things fire-proof, we can even build things bullet-proof but we can NOT build anything IDIOT-proof. Nothing !

Take for example Toyota's recent floor mat campaign.

I believe wholeheartedly this is the consumer's fault. People with no brains with no common sense who's trying to blame their mishaps on Toyota now.

IMO Toyota shouldn't even bother giving monetary rewards to these people. Let them learn their lessons. How could it be that out of millions of Toyota vehicles with electric floor mats only this one causing problem? I think there are more hidden agendas behind this lawsuit. It's very classic, in high profile case like this, people who file the lawsuit only have on thing in their mind ====> BIG $$$.

    And so does their lawyer(s).

For we yanks this is the world we are living in here in USA, a place that's run by Mr and Mrs Sue Happy and their lawyers ready to sue anybody anytime.

    Sad really.

The problem is NOT Mr or Mrs Sue happy, it's the lawyers behind them mirroring big profits when in fact they get the biggest part of any settlements. Look this sobering statistic up. And you thought that bankers were the biggest profiteers on this Earth? Think Again!!!
