Thanks again Rosco.
Great info. That Gibb River Road looks very promising.
If we go we will be in a group of 4 to 6 cars (all Dutchies) so we will have to talk to the others about it, but since some of the group members are a bit worried about safety on CSR this might be a valuable alternative.

Another option is to do sections of the CSR. There are tracks from the CSR that take you back to main roads so you dont have to do the whole 1800klm.
I guess it depends on what type of trip you want but the CSR requires a lot of time ,effort and money.

If you were to take the main highway and do trips off to the sides , you will still require a 4wd, but I think you would see more along the coastal areas .
Places such as Coral Bay which is listed as a World Heritage site.

Another one of my future destinations is the Bradshaws rock art.
The Bradshaws is in the Kimberley region and near the Gibb river rd.
They are well preserved rock paintings 4 times older than the pyramids.

Rosco.
Main goal of the trip is to be in '4WD-country'
We're also interested in culture and people, but being in the outback is the main goal. That means a lot of dirt-tracks.
And although CSR is starting to become more and more a 'tourist'- track, as far as we can judge, it's still a challenging track with a lot of opportuny to see the nature and being in the nature.
We're still discussing tracks and routes, but because we don't know Ozi very well (I've only been downunder twice in the Sydney - Melbourne - Adelaide area) and have different opinions about how challenging it may be and have different time-tables, we are looking for hints like your's. So please post them if you have them.
Meanwhile I think we should take this to another tread, this is hardly diesel and 24 V stuff anymore.... ;)

(note: as from tomorrow I'll be gone for at least three weeks. Camping (trailer). By that time I think you'll be gone for your trip? In that case: have a safe journey and enjoy !!)

I just found this thread! When are you planing your CSR trip? I still have my LPG FJ60 BTW it still has the petrol tank too, in New Castle. I am very interested in an outback trip! Are you looking for additional rigs?
My rig is very much outfitted with a ton of gear, tools, and an experienced driver/mechanic.

This thing has a ton of gear, built in bed and a lot of LPG!

Ron has gone away for 3 weeks. The LPG is not suitable on a trip like that because the limited fuel stops only have petrol or diesel.
The diesels are reported to use about half the fuel of a gasser on the CSR;)

I understand the problems with running out of fuel on the CSR but this truck will go over 700 miles/ 1127 Kilometers when you are full on LPG and petrol. We bought the Cruiser from a guy from Denmark that had been traveling the outback solo for 2 years. He put on 50,000 Klometers in that time.
