I have an old hilux with a 3L naturally aspirated in it.

I had to change the injector pump and injectors recently.

I put everything back together with the timing marks on the pulleys lined up. Turned it over by hand to make sure the marks still matched and it all was sweet.

I went on a trip recently and struggled up the hills.
I assumed the altitude was not helping but I am still missing power at sea level.

I popped the oil cap off and there is considerable air blowing back out.

It's the same at the air filter too.

First thought was excessive wear in the engine but now I'm wondering if the timing belt could have slipped a tooth on the cam pulley?

I was hoping to not have to strip it back but I will if I need to.

Any suggestions or thoughts as to the cause of this?

Its not air being blown out, its crank gases and they are escaping past the rings. Is there oil in the air intake?

Was it checked before the pump and injectors were done. Its unlikely it would skip a tooth if it was done properly.
Valves been checked?

Thank you for the reply.

No oil seems to be in the intake.

I haven't had the valves checked and im praying it's not rings.

I'll try and get the compression checked.

Fingers crossed.
