Decided to put this thread in here, as i've been looking for exactly this kind of intel.
So, i was interested in roughly a "true" 33x10,5 size for my HJ61, and been looking at what i could find locally, not much available.
In the range of 255/85r16, there was not a lot to be found, and had to be special ordered at any of my tire shops.
Had that size before, and was ok with my KM2 in 255 and had KO2 for a couple of seasons in 33x10,5r15.
Still, i was not in love with them, the 255's went onto the smaller LJ73 and did a better job there, both on and off-road.
I did a trip from North of Norway around the balkans in 2018 with the fresh KO2 and they fit that purpose better, and would
have been perfect in my opinion if they actually were a true 33" tire!
The KO2 in 33x10,5 turned out to be just over 30 inches tall and had less traction than i liked in most off road situations for a fully laden 60.
In my part of the world, Northern Norway, they are closer to 95% on road and 5% offroad capable, as trails and off road conditions rarely are dry.
I just could not live with small tires not beeing up to the task, and decided to look for something i had not tried before.
The BF KM3, Maxxis razr, Yokohama Geolandar MT, Cooper STT pro and the Toyo MT seemed to fit the bill from what i could learn from others... Never had any of them before.
I've had the BF KM1, the BF KM2, BF KO2, General Grabber AT, the old Cooper STT, Mickey Thompson MTZ, GY Wrangler, Hankook Dynapro MT, Kumho MT KL71, Maxxis Bigshot, Federal MT and a few other AT style rubbers.
So with shopping locally, i ended up with a set of Toyo Open Country MT 285/85r16 for a decent price. I could have gone cheaper, but i liked what i heard about them.
Specs from Off-Road Tires With Maximum Traction | Open Country M/T are :
So, they say its a 33x11.6 r16 tire, recommended to mount on a 8" wide wheel, so i did.
At 67 lbs / 30.4 kg they are among the heavier tires in this size, also E load rated.
load rating is 126p wich is 3748 lbs / 1700 kg pr tire, ~15000 lbs / 6800 kg.
That's amazingly high, as my cruiser is at max glamping mode in the 7000 lbs / 3200 kg range.
Will update on what that does to my experience with them... i do at least have enough to go on for when towing and hauling heavy!
next i'll post up some ACTUAL numbers on them.
