Decided to put this thread in here, as i've been looking for exactly this kind of intel.

So, i was interested in roughly a "true" 33x10,5 size for my HJ61, and been looking at what i could find locally, not much available.
In the range of 255/85r16, there was not a lot to be found, and had to be special ordered at any of my tire shops.
Had that size before, and was ok with my KM2 in 255 and had KO2 for a couple of seasons in 33x10,5r15.
Still, i was not in love with them, the 255's went onto the smaller LJ73 and did a better job there, both on and off-road.

I did a trip from North of Norway around the balkans in 2018 with the fresh KO2 and they fit that purpose better, and would
have been perfect in my opinion if they actually were a true 33" tire!
The KO2 in 33x10,5 turned out to be just over 30 inches tall and had less traction than i liked in most off road situations for a fully laden 60.
In my part of the world, Northern Norway, they are closer to 95% on road and 5% offroad capable, as trails and off road conditions rarely are dry.

I just could not live with small tires not beeing up to the task, and decided to look for something i had not tried before.
The BF KM3, Maxxis razr, Yokohama Geolandar MT, Cooper STT pro and the Toyo MT seemed to fit the bill from what i could learn from others... Never had any of them before.

I've had the BF KM1, the BF KM2, BF KO2, General Grabber AT, the old Cooper STT, Mickey Thompson MTZ, GY Wrangler, Hankook Dynapro MT, Kumho MT KL71, Maxxis Bigshot, Federal MT and a few other AT style rubbers.

So with shopping locally, i ended up with a set of Toyo Open Country MT 285/85r16 for a decent price. I could have gone cheaper, but i liked what i heard about them.

So, they say its a 33x11.6 r16 tire, recommended to mount on a 8" wide wheel, so i did.
At 67 lbs / 30.4 kg they are among the heavier tires in this size, also E load rated.
load rating is 126p wich is 3748 lbs / 1700 kg pr tire, ~15000 lbs / 6800 kg.
That's amazingly high, as my cruiser is at max glamping mode in the 7000 lbs / 3200 kg range.
Will update on what that does to my experience with them... i do at least have enough to go on for when towing and hauling heavy!

next i'll post up some ACTUAL numbers on them.

So, first impressions were that they balanced easily, ran insanely smooth. The normal MT sound is there.
I ran the Nokian Hakka LT (same size) on the same 16x8 wheels until the day of the swap.
Seemed very confident, no tracking and definitely less sway and lean in cornering.
And the look is just what it should be, a cool, classic and agressive tire.
In only 10 hours of driving them i can already say its one of the better ones ive tried.
Will have to add more impressions later on.

Now, the measurements:

Bulge to bulge they are ~11" wide.

At 32psi they are a hair over 32" tall on flat ground. So maybe 33" unladen.

Measured like this.

Actual thread contact width is just over 9" on the widest lugs.

Overall i'm happy with what they measure out to, they fit the bill really good.
At 32psi, they seemed to run well with medium load in the rig, might go a bit up for long bitumen driving.

i moved the TPMS system to these wheels, from the KO2 setup, and temperatures are only rising a hair after half an hour of driving.
It's an internal sensor setup, and a dash-mounted display that reads pressure and temperature, nice unit from AUS, a company called DIGoptions.
For anyone interested in that, here's the setup i've got with internal sensors. No glitches after two years, putting the display away and it will beep if somethings up. Looks a bit cheap, but i dont bother. Recommended, saved me a KO2 when i punctured last year.

One sidewall has raised letters, and one has flat. This is the raised side out.

So how do they look on the cruiser? I must say, lovely! not biased at all!
Rear is just within fenders, fronts have thread right at fender line.

Now its time for some covid-cruiser tinkering, rust-grinding, brake upgrade and a few mods.

Would you be okay if I posted same spec shots with my 285/75R17 on 17x9 rims?
Mine are fairly new now so comparison would be pretty accurate.

Yeah, that's great! Measure in the same way, on 32 psi, like @wngrog has done 👌

TOYO MT 285/75R17 on 17x9 3.5” backspace or -25 mm offset. 32 PSI
This is also the front left tire, full weight of 12HT on it. Fully loaded in travel mode I run
about 38 PSI front and 40 PSI in rears. They were closer to the advertised 34” when new
I measured them but didn’t copy it down anywhere. My third set so I’m used to them.

just over 33” but these aren’t new tires. Probably close to 15,000 kms on them

Smooth, a true size then!! 🍾

I run a lot of 255/85-16s. Yokohama G003 MT
On 16x7 City racer wheels they are 32.5” tall and 9” wide.

Basically the same tire as the OP posted just narrower.

The 285-75-17 is a beast

I really considered them, and if I could get them here, now, I probably would have landed on them, on 7x series steelies.
They will now be winter tyre wheels 👌
