Chrysler has announced that it is recalling some 280,000 Ram pickups in the US, Canada and Mexico along with several other parts of the world.

The trucks, ranging from model years 2008 to 2011 are being recalled for defective outer tie rods on the left side, which can cause front-end miss alignment, excessive steering and tire wear and potential tie rod failure.

The automaker said, the problem most frequently occurs during low speed driving, such as in parking lots when drivers are making tight turns. The recall affects both light and heavy-duty trucks, including 4 x 4 Ram 1500 Mega Cab models, up to and including 2500 and 3500 pickup and 4 x2 chassis cabs, as well as older trucks (2003-08 model 2500 and 3500 rigs) that received these tie rods as replacement in-service items.

This marks the second time in less than year that Chrysler has had to recall trucks for tie rod ends, a previous one was issued back in December, that affected heavy-duty 4500 and 5500 chassis cab trucks.

I'm glad I waited so they can foot the bill on my frontend issues, I have a inner tie rod that has a tiny bit of slack in it but already causing irregular wear in my front tires. Will put it on them to see what they'll cover. Obviously some frontend concerns to cause the recall.

don`t forget draglink:)

Had to bring mine in for a recall in the frontend and mine was a 2006. This was last year sometime

Well i picked up a 2011 F250 last week and asked the local shop how much would it be to install a gooseneck ball. He told me $650-$750 depending on the brand. This seems really high to me, but I don't know anything about them. I'm sure the cheaper route is to install it myself, but what brand and setup? Is this install something that I can trust after doing it myself?

Congrats on the new rig bud I heard it was sweet , post a pic when you can. I just called Thibs to see what they charge they did the one in my truck pulling the bed and welding that 1 inch plate frame to frame is more than I would trust myself to take on. The PO had it done or I would have had them do the folding setup the one I have is fixed.

Shane at Thibs said its $595 parts and labor for the hitch and an addtional $90 parts and labor to install a bed plug for the 7 way. He said its a plug and play harness no splicing and warranty safe.

Thats for the fixed style, Larry?
Some of those hide a way goose necks are a pain to install according to the muffler shop guys. They were not the sharpest but they had done a few to know what it would take.

That is for the hide away type made by BMW, he said they no longer install the fixed type like I have. The issue with mine is its in to stay welded to the frame on both sides and the ball is threaded through the 1 inch plate and then welded. It would take some torch work to ever get it out.

Yeah. ALOT of torch work. Thats how the on in the dually was mounted. I really would like to get one that folds over, I had a flip ball in the dodge and really really didnt like it.
