Keeping an eye on the lift pump may have just saved me some $$$ on a CP3 pump.. The one in my tank is dying on me, factory specks call out for that Carter lift pump to operate at 9.5 psi min. Well even new they usually only maintain 9 psi. Over the last year my pressure has gone from the 8 psi (which is what it always ran at) to 5 psi this last week. At WOT (Wide Open Throttle ) it dropped to 3 psi not good at all (Lift pump is not doing its job) :frown: If I baby the throttle and drive a like a grandpa I can keep the lift pump at 5 psi. So the Dodge is parked and an AIR DOG II is on its way to the house to replace the factory lift pump. Once repaired there will be many advantages to installing the AIR DOG II compared to putting back in a factory unit.

Purpose of the lift pump is to supply a constant supply of fuel and fuel pressure(9.5 min) to the CP3 pump. The purpose of the CP3 pump is to turn the constant fuel supply and fuel pressure into 27K psi for the Common Rail Injectors. The fuel supplied to the CP3 lubricates and cools the pump. So starve the CP3 and you are not lubricating and cooling the pump. Any pump that does not get cooled or lubricated dies. So we'll see if i shut it down soon enough.

And on that note let see some burn out videos of the white Meg Cab :D

Good info Albert thanks I look forward to hearing how it turns out, I see now that Paul is right I need that gauge. I saw the Air Dog's in the Diesel mag I was reading the other day its suppose to remove the air from the fuel. Whats their pump put out?

So first on my list is that gauge any recommendations?

whatcha mean drive like a grandpa?----------- U are a grandpa or is it gramps :)

"Whats their pump put out?"

Their pump will handel 500 + hp engines. 15-17 constant psi supplied to the CP3 with 2mc filtration water/fuel seperator , 2mc fuel filter.

"recommendations?"

gauge to monitor lift pump pressure.link below to give you an idea of what is involved.

BD Power - Product: Low Fuel Pressure LED Alarm

I built what you see there for a fraction of that price (thats not $70 of parts there)

.

Thanks Albert well that ought to take care of you for a while. :)

I will talk to you more about it later but I called and talked to a tech at BD asking if the kit fit the 6.7 he said yes but didn't reccomend it for the 6.7 he said they are no problems with those pumps. I told him a friend said otherwise. Suprisingly he said they don't offer a fuel gauge kit for the 6.7 yet.

I just used their set up to copy off of. That's why I don't buy from them they are not up to speed on the 6.7.
I'll supply a better link

I prefer a gauge but a idiot light is better than nuttin

Will start with the idiot light but would like to add a cluster later with tranny temp, EGT and fuel pressure.

I'd get in a wreck trying to monitor all those gauges

ryan was told at the dealship to always have that exaust break on , helps clean the soot , just sucks u have to push it every time u get in but sho is nice tap the break and it kicks in

Seems like I read on cumminsforum.com that there is a way to make the exhaust brake come on every time you start the truck... did not pay attention to much since It does not apply to me.

Once you get the airdog installed (aka are the guinea pig) I have been wanting to get one on my truck.

Are Tow rig weekend wrenching sessions going to be in the clubs future?

I'd don't see why not they tote the TOYs. Is your timer built into your programmer are do you have a seperate timer? I had a Greddy standalone timer in my Evo I'm sure they make similar for the Diesels.

It is a feature built into the Edge Juice W/Attittude. I think just the Edge Attittude (guage package without fueling box, actually come to think about it, I think it might be called the insight without the Juice box) can do it as well.

I am sure there are standalones out there, and if I was doing it from scratch on a virgin truck I would not have the edge I think. I would have standard guages, and a smarty, then all the extra parts to suport the power the smarty gives, Airdog, trans upgrades, exhaust, intake.
