I am at the point in my build where I have to decide if I want to stitch weld and box my frame.

There doesn't seem to be a clear conscience here on the board. Any thoughts?
 
Honestly, just mild wheeling and some moderate trails. I have never really enjoyed the real hardcore rock crawling.
 
Hi All:

Boxing the entire frame of a '40/42 is a big job, and adds a lot of weight to the rig.

I'd suggest doing some reading here on MUD as to the areas of the frame that need beefing-up.

IMHO, inspect the frame very carefully. If you can sand blast it down to bare metal so much the better. Look for thin spots/rust holes in the frame rails.

It is common to box the front frame rail opposite of a Saginaw PS mount.

Check the frame near the rear spring mounts. The "fixed end" mount of the rear springs should be gusseted due to the stress of suspension flex.

If you take a look at the last couple posts in the build thread in my sig, you will see that I am already having to deal with rear spring hangers and some stuff in the front. I already have plans to address those areas, just wondering about the merits of boxing the entire frame and stitch welding the rest.
