Rebuild Kit

Got the bottom end torn down finally.

The crank is within spec, so I will not turn it. But will port and mill the head and bore and hone the cylinders.

Any recomendations on where to procure a rebuild kit? Can CDan get entire overhual kit? I want the over-bore option of 1.5 mm.

CDan should be able to get everything you need.

move to east mountains - check
retain FJ40 project despite intense spousal pressure to dump it- check
build a cash reserve to finance long block overhaul - check

okay time to get back on this project...any machine shop recommendations in the Abq. area? This would be just to do the vat and machine work, I will perform assembly myself.

Budlong. Southern and Eubank area.

Where did you move to?

Thanks, I'll check 'em out, I drive through that area everyday on the way to work.

Got it dropped off at Budlong's finally. I am going to have them do the longblock assembly. I am way to busy and don't have the workspace...it took me 2 months just to get it down there.

They will do you good. Let me know if you need assistance with the 3FE wiring.

Thanks Pappy, wiring will be a while out, but I know you will be the man with the answers. I am still thinking about doing a programable ECU, but since I have the OEM computer and harness may just end up using it. I do need to find a way to do knock control via retarded ignition timing (maybe an MSD module?) I am having the compression taken to 9.5:1. Or I could just be constrained to using 91 octane or packing octane booster.

I am planning on mating the 3FE to a H42/slit-case (in hopes someday an H55 finds its way into my garage). I have a late FJ40 bell-housing with mounting tabs, so would the tranny/xfer-case be okay hanging off the bell-housing? The FJ60 I pulled the gear-train from had a crossmember supporting it, but late model 40s with the H41 seem to be okay using the xfer-case mounts. Is a body lift also necessary?

A body lift was necessary on mine with the H55. Don't know about the H42. I ran the tranny off the back with the dog ear mounting for awhile. Then I bought a skid plate from Iron Pig, and fabricated up a cross member on it.

I think 9.5:1 might be a bit high. Just a gut feeling.

My H41 and Orion (cast iron; heavier than a Toyota case) are just hanging off of my stock 2F bell housing and do just fine with no problems or complaints.
