Ok guys and galls i am doing a bunch of work to a 84 fj60 one of the things i am doing is full knuckle rebuild both front and rear housings are out along with the chassis. I am painting the chassis along with the housings my question is the front axle housing the knuckle balls should i paint them or leave them bare the ocd in me says paint but the mechanical ocd of me says leave them bare just in case the paint gets compromised i dont want it to prematurely wear the wiper so to paint or not to paint thats the question. Lets hear it ... thanks everyone

I'm no expert but since they didn't come painted from the factory I would not paint them now. If there was a benefit I image the engineers would have painted them on the assembly line.

Do not paint.
Unnecessary.
The felt wipers are saturated with the oil in the grease and continually wipe oil on the knuckle housing every time you turn the wheel.
Paint will just peel off anyway when the oily wipers rub against it.
