To change or not ??? My 200K miles 2000 LX470 for a lower mileage 06-07 model

I bought my 06 new, and wouldn’t change a thing, but yes I do think VVTI on the 06-07 is overrated by people just comparing specs on paper. VVTI allows better “breathing” at high RPM, and how often is high RPM really useful in a 3-ton full time 4wd vehicle? I personally think that the 03-07 5-spd is more interesting/useful for its lower first gear.

If desired the power difference can be mitigated by using the 06+ variable length intake and a set of headers (which are much less costly than the 06+ versions with SAIS, which is another problem waiting to happen). The 5 speed was the biggest improvement Toyota made to the 100 series.

As a VVTI 06 LX owner, I think that “power difference” is somewhat theoretical, again, in a 3-ton, off-road, full time 4wd vehicle, low RPM torque would be more important to me, and a 5spd transmission, with a lower first gear, only amplifies that torque.

Wow, I am looking at a 2006 model and below is the inspection report from Lexus.
This is too much right, especially the traction sensor warning?
My mechanic said the oil pan gasket alone would take 17 hours to complete.
I now appreciate mine more with all the updates :)

I think this is what was meant by:
The devil you know vs the one you don't or something like that

Always a harsh realization when you recognize how much baselining and awareness is necessary to have faith in an older vehicle and how much it has taken to get your current one to where it is. Not to say upgrading to a newer model isn't worth it, but the above example doesn't sound like the one.

came here to say this. also, i really do not understand all the hype of the 06-07. from my understanding vvti makes the 2uzfe an interference engine, not to mention the exorbitant cost increase required to replace the cam seals on the vvti (assuming a shop does it). at least in 98-05 if your timing belt breaks you wont tank your engine.

i always keep an eye on 100's for sale in my area and i specifically exclude 06-07. why pay a premium for something that has a higher cost of ownership for no added benefits. some ppl buy them for the tail lights, but you can add those tail lights to any 100. I do appreciate the 5th gear on the later models, but you get that starting in 03.

06-07 has the nicest looking front grill of any year LX imo. For me that is enough to go with the newer model.
