and who know what else LOL.

As you see, i am about to commit some big ticket updates, and i wonder if i should invest in a newer LX470 with lower mileage.
Don't get me wrong, i love this truck, and it's been my daily for the past 6 months :) I used this truck to take my kids to school, go to short road trip (use my new 22 GX460 for longer road trip :)

One thing that bothers me is that when i bought this truck, the previous owner KNEW about the EFI issue with the 1998-2002 model, and did not told me that.(he told me it happened to him once when i had the issue from this thread:
To me that's a safety issue, and he chose not to tell me!

I really want a reliable, trouble free fun camper.
so the big question is: should i look for a newer model 06-07 with extra horse power and lower mileage???
one thing i am concerned about is that any LX with over 140K miles has wear and tear, so i still do need to replace them so i might as well upgrade the one i have :)
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

yes, i did buy the EFI relay bypass kit (at the time, the junction box was out of stocks everywhere, so the kit was the only option i had).
Now i see that the junction box is available again, but i am convinced i don't need to buy it!
anyone has the kit, and still buy the new j-box anyway?

Not me! I bought the kit and hard wired it to the battery. I haven't had a single issue since.

If it were me, I would not get rid of that very well sorted LX to get a newer one with unknown history and a few thousand dollars of baseline maintenance to do. And that's assuming you just sit on the items you have already ordered and install on the replacement vehicle.

I've had both, and currently have an 02. I can tell you the newer trucks with the five speed and VVTI feel like the have 100 horsepower more. I'm not sure it that makes upgrading worth the money to you, but I know if I were to do it again I would have held out for an 06-07 and passed on my 02.

I bought the relay and wired up the EFI solution myself. It’s been working fine for 4 years. You can buy or DIY.

My 06 LX feels much nicer than my 99LC ever did. VGRS, VVTI, and the 5 speed make a meaningful difference in the experience.

That said, surprises I found after purchase:
1. Silicone under the flexible solar panel on the roof ruined the paint and needed full respray on the roof. $1000+ and 15 hours labor. Probably $2k at a paint shop.
2. Coolant leak at the bypass pipe. Led to a big overhaul job. $2k in parts and 30 hours labor. Probably $3-4k at a shop.
3. Windshield Replacement. Previous job was a complete hack. Used screws, corrosion all over, urethane overapplied and ruined trim, etc... Replacement was around $4k I think, but insurance covered most of it after a long battle.

Point being, even if you score a "good" 100, expect a long laundry list.

When buying a car, I don't count on seller to tell me all the problems with the car.

I don't think it is a safety issue. Please send back the kit if you think it is a safety issue, I will give you your money back. I don't want to be responsible for your safety.

I’ve got a high mileage 99 LX (250k+), and a low mileage 06 LX (100k+).

If I had to choose between the those two, I’d definitely choose the 06 LX. I do love the 99 LX and do drive it often.

If I had to choose between my “known” (over maintained) 99 LX, and some random “unknown” (under maintained) 06/07 LC/LX, I’d probably stick with my old 99 LX.

Medtro, you got my message the wrong way, or maybe my message was not clear. What i meant by safety issue is that the connection on the junction box was intermittently not conducting which causes the car to stop BEFORE i got your kit. Imagine you drive on the freeway and suddenly the car stops (luckiliy for me i was just driving slowly out of my garage at the time it happened). I don't know if that is NOT a safety issue, then what it is.

After getting your kit, the car has performed flawlessly -and i did thanks you in my original thread. And that is the reason i don't need to buy a new junction box even it is available now.

Just keep it. Any 100 you get will need something at this point to saying "trouble free" is relative.
Trouble free would apply more to a 5 year old and newer 200....

Tareq, actually a similar mileage 200 series early model costs about the same or just 1-2k more compared to a 06-07 100 series.
i tried test drive an lx570, and it has a lot more power, but I really like the design and creature comfort of the 100 series.
The seat leather is much more comfortable, and is at higher quality i think.

470: (really tempted on this one :)

That 570 looks nice and is a decent price

IMO 06-07’s are over rated. If I could do it over I’d get an 03-05.

+1
I would keep it until I can afford to get a 200 in the future! :)

I’ve test driven the 200 series multiple times, and so far it just hasn’t piqued my interest. Maybe I’m still dealing with selling my 80 series “too soon”. If my 06 LX was totaled tomorrow, I might buy a late model 200, or new 300, but I’m not “upgrading” willingly.

I bought my 06 new, and wouldn’t change a thing, but yes I do think VVTI on the 06-07 is overrated by people just comparing specs on paper. VVTI allows better “breathing” at high RPM, and how often is high RPM really useful in a 3-ton full time 4wd vehicle? I personally think that the 03-07 5-spd is more interesting/useful for its lower first gear.

No excessive corrosion or rust issues - just the right amount apparently.
That thing has been on craigslist (and assorted sites) for the past 3 months practically.

Here's a better one IMO:

And I just came in to this thread to say how much faster my new 06 feels compared to my old 02.
