Now don't bite my head off because I am gonna use some J**p references in this post, but it is the only reference I have for this type of event.

Every year J**p puts on "Camp Jeep", I attended one in 1998 in Colorado at camp Hail, and it was awesome! At that time it was still relatively small, about 300 J**ps at the time. It has really grown since then.

They offered so many different activities.

They had a "tech" tent, a tread lightly tent, a history tent, a kids activity tent, rock wall climbing, food, concerts, an off-road area where you could drive the newest J**p over logs, off camber, and general off-roading course. You had an experienced off-roader with you to guide you through the course. They offered all day trail rides.

Now I know the first question would be "who will work it?" They recruited people from all over the US from different 4x4 clubs to work it. We met a member from another group we were on from West Virginia.

Who will fund it? Well I would think that Toyota would be the greatest sponsor, followed by the aftermarket companies, eg. Old Man Emu etc.

The possibilites for this type of event would be limited by imagination only.
I would really like to see this type of event happen with the TLCA. It educational, informative, and most of all FUN!!!

Here is a reference to the J**p page that might help with ideas, I'm not suggesting to copy them, but to make a Toyota event to rival them.

Jeep - Jeep Life - Events - Camp Jeep

It would be a lot of work, but it would be worth every drop of sweat, it would promote Toyota and the TLCA and what they are about.

We're actually working on something like that;)

I've tried in the past to get Toyota's support for this and not gotten much interest. Economic times right now would seem to make that less like, but once we have a detailed proposal, we can usre ptich them again.

thx!

Did you pitch it to the Corporation or to a local dealer? Just curious?

Pam

I am currently gathering information based on a proposal I pitched to the BOD for this exact type of an event.

Your timing on starting this thread is spot on and glad to see the topic for an "alterna" event was suggested. I'm traveling to the proposed location to talk to people face-to-face to get this off the ground for 09

local to me isn't the asme as local to either event we're researching right now, but, perhaps.
Maybe not on the same scale, but, maybe.

The way Toyota dealerships operate is regional, for instance, with our local event in Iowa, we partner with Toyota of Des Moines. They actually contact their regional marketing head, which happens to be the Kansas City regional director. Not sure how all the regions break out. That would be valuable information to have though.

As far as Toyota goes, this is what the trail team does by going to almost all of the TLCA events I have been to. They have spent three years taking folks on trail rides and letting helping them get more info on the FJC. Its not exactly the same but I am assuming you are not talking about an exact copy of the camp jeep.

The way Toyota dealerships operate is regional

The reason for that is that when dealerships are asked to allocate advertising dollars outside thier designated (by region or distributor) Primary Marketing Area, it gets problematic.

There are creative ways around PMA restrictions, but 99% of the dealers aren't gonna give a hoot.

As far as finding Regional/Distributor contacts, it isn't a secret... Google is your friend. ;)

I would just like it if we could get some TLCA marketing and educational material for our TLCA sanctioned Lone Star Toyota Jamboree.

We pull in a large number of non-TLCA members and this year with our Introduction the Barnwell Mountain and Safe Wheeling with Beginner Guided Run classes on Friday we are pulling people who are new to wheeling in general. Its a great time to promote what TLCA is and promote membership.

We have done our best in the past to promote TLCA, and Nick Stone has promised some Toyota Trails and is trying to get a banner so we can set up a table this year at our vender meet-n-greet friday night.

I think before TLCA gets involved in heading up its own Jeep Jamboree event, its gets more involved in the Sanctioned events already held and provide marketing collateral. My .02

As much as you pay for a Camp Jeep event you should get all of that stuff. It's an expensive trip.

Later,

Who's got the banner?
Bodean? Jeff Zepp? TAC guys?
I'm looking....
Thanks in advance!

Happy Trails! N
