Hi all... Due to lots of changes we need to get the front drive shaft lower...
The idea i had was to put the read Diff ( the hole things pinion, king, arbs... the hole metal casing ( don't know how it is said)) in front, cause the rear has a lower mounted pinion, which will be a fix to our problem.
Can it be just changed , swapped , bolts on the same place...???

PS: Both of the diffs are 4.88 with ARBs.

If it's a high pinion differential, it's a different size than the rear. 8" ring in the front, 9.5" in the rear.

Are you having driveline angle problems? IIRC, you have the HP diff front to clear the steering tie rid. You can try changing your caster angle, plenty of caster angle plates out there

LJ70s have 8" ring gears in both front and rear and coils at both ends.

Oops, thought they had the bigger rear end, and no, I'm not calling his cruiser fat.:grinpimp:

Bolt it up and see what happens. Should be similar enough to attach and play around with. But, I think you may still have problems with tie rod end, and maybe sway bar clearance if it is a similar steering setup as the 80. A few pics that I have seen of the LJ70 steering have the tie rod on the trailing end like the 80, under the HP housing.

following the 60 series theory .. that 3rd can be swaped .. thought 8" can be too ..

I think they can be exchanged except for the interference of the tie rod which generally runs under the high pinion front. I'm not sure about strength issues when running on the coast side of the gears when a high pinion is put in the back but I'm pretty sure the minitruck guys get away with it.

Thanks all...

We need that change cause we are swapping the 1.3 engine to 4.2 Ford engine with Autotrainy and the drive shaft is a little too close with toyota r151 t-case.
We will have in front Full Hydro steering so... tie rods are out of the way !
Tomorrow we will make the swap and crossing fingers - everything to be ok !

SWAP

Yes a rear diff will bolt into the front. the pinion is lower and you'd have to check clearance on other components. You will also sacrifice a bit of strength, as the gears would then be driving on the coast side.
