yes, on the 60" Hi-lift, the 48' is pretty short in reality.. also the load rating for the Hi-lift decreases by 1/2. in the top 12" of the jack.. (shear pin is still rated at 7,000lbs..)
I've got a 48" but the the few times I have used it I lifted from the slider. If you open up the T slots you'll have enough height in the 48" to get what you need done.
The I4WDTA instructor in a class last weekend told me the Hi-lift brand 60” Xtreme is the way to go. The extra length can help with reach on irregular trail positions.
Update: I cut the T-slots in the bumper to fit a regular Hi-lift with a Dremel. Works great. The nose of the hi-lift is very secure in the T-slot it can’t slip off or go side ways. There is also reinforcing steel behind the T-slots made for this. If you have a TJM bumper, I recommend doing this.
