Wondering what people think about the TJM rear bumper (australian) compared to the Kaymar. for the fj80.
i saw one on a 97 and it looked solid .
searched the posts but couldnt find feedback. thanks.

From the research I've done, the TJM is a decent bumper with crappy powdercoating. The TJM is also not as beefy as the Kaymar, although the Kaymar itself isn't the beefiest bumper either.

Get a Slee or Hanna if you want a tough bumper.

I 2nd on the Hanna, I did alot of research and considered everything from Slee, Kaymar, and TJM. Found the Hanna to be more to my licking liking and better build than a Kaymar or TJM.

Used to be that if you towed, Kaymar was your only option. Christo now offers towing capabilities. His and Ken Hanna's bumpers are both built more sturdy than my Kaymar IMHO.

Your choice will depend on what your needs are. Are you going rock bashing or just general expedition, backwoods hunting type driving. For the former, Hanna/Slee/4x4 Labs. For the later, either TJM or Kaymar would be plenty. If you plan on carrying a hi-lift jack, Kaymar's attachment sucks on placment, where Hanna and Slee tuck it at an angle behind the spare.

Dude I can understand being fond of your bumper but don't you think thats a bit extreme.

TJM makes a fine bumper for the price. If hard core rock crawling is your thing though there are probably better options out there. Its all dependent on the type of wheeling you want to do.

Maybe he's still in the dog house and that's all he's gettin' is a little lickin' (as dogs do.....) :flipoff2:

what do you expect after 21 years of marriage. :crybaby:

I bad mouth my Kaymar 24/7 just because it seems to be the thing to do. That said, I can't seem to bother the stupid thing. I may not be beating it as hard as you all do though.

Iron Pig Offroad makes a nice rear bumper also.

I could check, but then i couldn't be lazy, BUT, when you add the tire carrier, isn't the Kaymar very close in price to Slee and Ken Hannah's? If so, might as well just go with the bullet proof guys and never look back.

Slee $1795
TJM $1460
Kaymar $1220

Not saying they're equal but that is a tow bumper with a tire carrier.

Kaymar w/tire carrier is $820 for bumper with dual pivots and $400 for tire carrier. Add another $109 if you want Kaymar's Hi-lift accessory for the tire carrier. I think both Hanna and Slee have them w/tire carrier.

Board sponsor Man-A-Fre is the only US importer/distributor for Kaymar.

I have a TJM and it is less beefy than the others I have seen. The powder coating isn't very good either. I am very happy with it though because I bought it used for less than the cost of just the tire carrier portion of the other bumpers and then I repainted it.

It will take some pretty good abuse too. If I were to but new I would go with one of the other options.

I bought my TJM using a 40% discount certificate, so it was significantly cheaper than any of the others. Similar experience with the crappy powdercoating.

According to the instructions, you can use the factory tow hitch with it. Don't have one so I haven't verified if that's true.

Nobody likes the new ARB Rear Bumper?

I have a Kaymar and it's been able to handle everything I have thrown at it...granted no serious rock crawling but it has bashed some rocks pretty hard. I have no complaints. The main reason I have kept it was because of the towing capabilities. But now it seems that Hanna has towing capabilities so my Kaymar might just have to go on the auction block soon. I need to call Ken and see what his production schedule looks like : )

FZ,

When the 'new' ARB rear bumper came up last here, all I recall were pictures of a 100 series from ARB. Is there one for 80s now?

off to search
