I'm a new to LX470's. Got a 2002 LX470 coming in this week from California.
Was reading some posts on this forum about a "techstream with mini VCI".

It looks like an OBD2 diagnostic interface. Found one for $20:

So tell me if this is what will work with my 2002 LX470?
I'm familiar with Torque Pro OBD2.

Thanks

Carl

Getting this stuff to work is a crap-shoot, IMO. The cables are all Chinese copies of a copy of the original Toyota cable. I tried three different mini VCI cables each with two or three different laptops and fresh OS installs (64bit and 32bit) before i finally found a combo that worked 100%. --and I'm a computer guy by profession (though admittedly I am NOT a windows expert, but def know my way around windows just fine for stuff like this).

The combo that worked for me was a 32bit Windows 7 laptop, and this cable: Fotga Newest V8.00.034 MINI VCI for TOYOTA TIS Techstream Diagnostic Cable & Software Model: ZB031 Car/Vehicle Accessories/Parts Amazon.com: Fotga Newest V8.00.034 MINI VCI for TOYOTA TIS Techstream Diagnostic Cable & Software Model: ZB031 Car/Vehicle Accessories/Parts: Cell Phones & Accessories

I ordered one off Ebay. After much time trying to get it to work I found that the supplied CDROM did not
contain the VIM drivers. I was afraid of downloading drivers from a Chinese website as my Browser posted
a warning message that the website contained malware. Do you know of any websites that are save to
download the necessary VIM drivers?

I am trying to install this on an old Windows XP 32-bit laptop.

BTW, my cable is labeled: "MINI-VCI J2534 Standard OBDII Communication Interface"

Search for my Techstream threads for further. ODB-II != Techstream. Techstream is completely proprietary and only uses the OBD-II standard for interface. The knock-off cables are going to be limited in their functionality. Get legit kit if you plan on doing anything more than one-off settings changes or code reads.

This has generally good feedback in the 200-series section.

2015 Original Mini VCI Diagnostic Cable for Toyota Lexus TIS Techstream fw 2.0.4 If you continue down the ebay page you'll see it's claimed to work with 32 and 64-bit windows machines, and it works on both older and newer trucks. Mine arrived directly from Hong Kong in about a week and a half.

I've got a Macbook Pro which will NOT become a garage laptop, searching now for a cheapo Win 7 Pro machine pretty much dedicated to just vehicle maintenance.

I've been using the one above for 4-5 years - first on a 2008 Tundra, then a 2014 Tacoma, and now my 2003 LC 100. I have a Mac Pro so I use a Windows XP VM to run it in and have had zero issues doing anything I've needed to do including running a full diagnostic on my LC.

It's certainly seems that its important to secure a version that supports "K Line" if you intend to work on vehicles built earlier than 2005, as the version @hankinid linked does. Some time back a member here couldn't get their pirate copy to work and their cable interface check revealed the K line (pin 7 in dlc3 iirc) wasn't active, whereas mine was (version 7xxx pirate copy, can't recall what driver on an '03). Search "k line" for history if interested. Don't recall if they resolved their issue or what the root cause was. And until I feel the need to attempt a reflash (never) I'll enjoy completing every check and diagnostic I need with my unsupported $35 set up.

I bought a $100 WinBook tablet (running Win8.1) a year or so ago as a dedicated TIS device - it sites in my center console with the TIS cable. Works perfectly!

Was able to diagnose an electrical gremlin on a road trip early last year:

I'd thought of that. Issue is both LX and LC share a garage with tractors, baleing machines, and other ag machines, sometimes torn apart to one degree or another. Just an issue of a possible accident with the Macbook.

Exactly what I need. Can you give me any specifics on the tablet?...maker, RAM, storage, etc. How did you get the TIS program onto the tablet?

Looks like an excursion to Best Buy might be happening this weekend.

Thanks much.

Question:
I'm just discovering this Techstream thing. I'd like to use it for flushing the front brakes and ABS reservour on my 2002 100. Can someone please recommend a legit website where it can be downloaded? If I purchase the cable hankinid recommends then all I need is to do is download the software, correct? Is the real Techstream software actually free? That's what I've been seeing.
Thanks, and sorry for the hijack cwmoser....

Does anyone know if Techstream will allow you to bump up the idle speed a couple of hundred RPM's while in Drive? My blue sea ACR cuts off at 12.5 volts and just a couple hundred more rpms would allow my alternator to maintain voltage above that with the headlights on while idling in drive.

Changing idle speed isn't a user selectable option in Techstream. You could possiblly trick the engine management ECU to idle up with a false AC on signal if you're into EWD details and experimenting.

Thanks, PADDO,
That sounds a little to involved. I'll just keep locking the ACR on with the manual dashboard switch like I've been doing. Just trying to save unnecessary contact point wear, that's all.
Thanks.

I finally got my tech stream to work tonight after spending wayyy too much time trying to get it to work. I'm so excited to finally have my AHC pressures adjusted properly. Although some of the customize functions I thought I would have access to aren't available, all of the diagnostic and live data aspects of the software are working perfectly.

If anyone is trying to get it to work on a 64 bit Windows 7/8 machine, this is the guide you are looking for: Techstream TIS VCI Installation Guide (64-bit OS) Including All Software Needed! - Scion FR-S Forum | Subaru BRZ Forum | Toyota 86 GT 86 Forum | AS1 Forum - FT86CLUB
