Greetings -

My new Toyo MTs don't specify spin direction and the tire shop has the left and right side set up differently. One side has the outside lugs forward, the other side sloping back. With the lugs pointing foward on the outside edge, I'm wondering if they will cup as they wear. There are no white letter so the side facing out can change.

My thought is to have the tire shop remount the driver's side tires to match the passenger's side, out lugs facing back.

Any thoughts on the best direction for traction and wear?

Are you sure they can be swapped? In other words, if you turn the tire around, won't the lugs be facing the same direction? I'm not familiar with the tires, so this is just a guess.

I've tried swapping tires, but no matter what I do the tires on the drivers side spin counterclockwise, and the tires on the passenger side spin clockwise. ;p

Could this be resolved by mounting them on the rim the other way? I know my Iroks are directional and they must be mounted on the rim correctly / directionally... Think about a tractor "V" tread... 4 tires mounted to all say "V" would yeild one side wrong >>>>... You need two "V"'s >>and two upside down "V"s<< the problem lies in how it's mounted to the rim since there is an inside and outside of the rim.

This is your how your tires should go:

outside rim
> tires >
inside rim
FJ80....
inside rim
> tires >
outside rim

Tech_dog,

Whew, what a relief. I was worried about the same thing - tire rotations that is. Now that I know there is someone else out there with the same problem I feel less alone...

I'm looking to go back to the tire shop and have them remount 2 tires so they spin the other way. I did find the Toyo phone number and will call them tomorrow a.m. 800-442-8696.

Have seen other tires wear poorly, I don't want to happen here, not at $300 a pop.

Thanks for the input, I will let you guys know if I learn anything insightful.

the toyo MT is NOT a directional tire. this is a great thing. it means you can mount any wheel and tire in any location on the vehicle with out having to change the rims around.

directionals are a PITA IMHO.

Non-directional tire...

Got it, non-directional. (such a newbie question anyway  )

I did call Toyo. They made a recommendation to rotate tires in a consistent way. This was my thought:

Spare to RR
RR to RF
RF to LR
LR to LF
LF to Spare

Is that what others are doing?

Rotate tires?!? You guys have tires that last that long?!? :flipoff2:

(Yes, that is tire smoke...)

Try putting it in 4wheel drive next time! :)

I really don't think it matters how you rotate your tires as long as your consistant. So, remember the pattern you rotated them and keep it the same each time...

I think the vehicle owners manual gives a recomended rotation pattern. At least my LX450 does. I am out of town now or I would check for you.
