Well I submitted a request for new tires to my Withholding/ Investments/ Financial Evaluator (WIFE) and the request was approved.

I have been pricing tires online and found a great deal at onlinetires.com. One rub with buying the tires online I don't get the cool certs like Discount offers. So I'd like to buy the tires from Discount, but I don't know which one to go to. I do know that the one on Menaul is full :censor: holes.

So where have you guys had luck getting your tires?

What tires are you planning on getting?

Rory -

I usually go to one of the Discount Tires on Juan Tabo (there are two). One is near Constitution and is closer to work. The other is a bigger store and is further north down near Candelaria.

Both stores have been reasonable to work with.

Evan

I like your WIFE acronym!

Rory,
I have used both of the stores that Evan mentioned. I prefer the Juan Tabo near Candelaria location. One of the guys that works there has a built 80. They do not hassle you about oversized tires or anything like that. In fact, they will probably sell you the certs at a reasonable price even if you don't buy the tires from them.

When I took my car in for the wheel change in December, they told me my tires were in very good condition and were "80,000 mile rated" tires (whatever that means...) They sold me certs as part of the deal and, if I remember correctly, it came out about the same as paying for a tire change, and balance.

Give them a call. They will usually beat the on-line prices too and they can get just about any tire you want, even if it is not one they stock (like the Toyos that I bought.)

Having said the above... I bought a set of Michelins for Connie's car and had to take it back within a few days to get them rebalanced. They screwed it up a 2nd time but we couldn't tell until we took the trip to Utah a few weeks ago. Stopped in Flag and they said there was 6oz too much on the RR which is exactly where I told them something was wrong. Took about 30 minutes to re-balance and we were on the way. (No charge, of course.)

I like dealing with Discount.

I bought 3 or 4 set of tires from Sears and they were about the same though there are fewer places in town and around the country.

I have shopped around occasionally but keep coming back to Discount. I generally check Sam's and Costco for their price, then Discount will match it. I like the free balance and rotate anytime at any Discount, as well as their extra warranty (except I hear they don't offer the warranty anymore on anything bigger than 33's - not sure about that though)

That is a sweet deal. If they do that I have no reason to buy the tires from them. I can get the tires I want online for $130 each and shipping for $110. For a total of $760. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

I have picked up some tires from Pep Boys, Sears, and discount tires. I would also consider Sam's club, & Costco. I prefer to go to a chain, as if you are on a trip somewhere, and a tire blows, there is usually one around to take care of the flat, rebalance, etc.

That said, I need to get some new tires for the mini-van before I get new ones for the truck, so i'll be focusing on Costco, Sam's club, and Discount tires.

I think Discount has a leg-up though, as they honored the warranty of the previous owner, and transferred it into my name for free balancing, rotation & flat repair.

I've been getting all of my tires lately from Discount. I've occasionally had balance issues while traveling and it's nice to stop at any store and get them rebalanced. Plus the free balance and rotation every oil change.

Add another vote for Discount. If you show them the price you got elsewhere they can usually match it but when I was pricing Copper STT's (not the ones your looking at) they were about $50 more a tire than anywhere else. They would not price match that set and and didn't believe I could get them for the price everyone else in town was quoting:confused::mad:. That's why I went with the BFG KM2's. Well that and they had the KM2's in stock.

I have been looking at the BFG KM2's.. how do you like them? I am considering them for early next year, if they have the 285/75/16's by then at a reasonable price. I asked at discount, and they are available for $675 a piece special order, but anticipated more of the smaller sizes would be available soon as regular stock.

I went to the Discount on Menaul a while back and asked them to price the tires I wanted. They priced them out at $190 each and then kept adding all kinds of shtuff. So I told them I had found them for 160 each and the guy would come close but would not match it. I kept talking him down and he finally said this is as low as I'll go (around $170 each) take it or leave it. I told him to do the math and tell me how he was "matching" the price. He said he wasn't going to do the math. So I told him I wasn't going to buy the tires. That is why I wanted to know where you guys have a had a better experience bargaining with Discount. I would rather not give him my business.

It was this time last year that I got the 35" Toyos w/certs from Discount.

Try the other one in your neighborhood. Print this page:
Discount Tire Co./America's Tire Co. - Press Release - Discount Tire Teams With Roush Racing

and show them this sentence:
"In each of our 650-plus stores across the country, our people provide customers with the best price, advice and service, just like a winning pit crew"

Rory,

I know there is some flexibility with Discount, but they might have their limits. When I originally priced tires awhile back for the Camry the sales guy really knocked off some bucks. I just wasn't ready, and I really wanted a better tire than what they were offering at the time.

I finally bought tires for the Camry on Saturday. The price was more than I wanted, so the guy started working the numbers. I would have to double check, but I think he tossed in the no-questions asked warranty. I was trying to get the price down to a certain point, and he was willing to do that.

I think what sells me on Discount is there customer service. I like being greeted when I walk up to the door when they are not slammed with business. I used to rotate my own tires before I started doing business with them. Now, why bother when I can get them balanced too and it only takes a little more time.

I have to hate the current trend of business that are selling their merchandise like used cars. Why can't more of them just give a good fixed price to everyone. but that being said, it is what it is, so walk in prepared, and let the guy after you provide their margins.

I agree. And I can understand that they have to make money. But if that is the case say so. Don't end the bargaining abruptly and offer no explaination of the deal on the table.

I know much of the discussion has centered around discount tire. Thought I throw in another name: Cedar Crest Tire out on North 14. Yes, they are a click away. But it is owned by a local guy named Kevin who will definately take care of you. I am biased towards buying local but this guy has been taking care of me for the 13 years I could drive and my parents for a good ten years on top of that.

Rory,

Years ago I bought only the certs from a Discount tire near Chicago for all five tires. I did this twice so you should be able to do this currently.

Costco/Sam's will install the exact size recommended for your vehicle so they're good for our non wheeling vehicles; of course, you can buy any size you want loose.
