I'm new to this, but I currently own a 97 LX450 and the first thing I did was installed a OME J Series Replacement Suspension which is supposed to add 3.5-4 inches of lift - which all went fine. Last night I bought from another IH8MUD member some Pro Comp 35/12.5/16 xterrain tires to install on the stock 16" rims. When I went to Les Schwab this monring to get the install done, they said 35's would rub like crazy and even a 33" would be tight. This is spefically in the front wheel on the back side of the tire when turning.

I know lots (most everyone) is running 35's and even 37's on the same or smaller lifts, so can anyone please tell me who is running a 35 or larger if they had to trim or how to get them to fit.

Yes, I still have the dork steps on the side, but I am planning to remove them.

Thanks

So have they actually rubbed or they just told you that. I have 315s on stock wheels with a 3.5" lift and two broken springs, and barely rub under full stuff only in the rear.
Also no bump stop extensions on the rear and 1.5" bump stop extensions on the front.

Both he and I looked at it and it sure seems like it will rub. I currenlty have 275/70/16's and there is only a couple inches of room behind the front tire when I turn. Maybe I should go back and have them put one on and see for sure.

By everything I have read, it seems they should fit with the stock rims, correct? Are others trimming fenders to get them to fit, or should they just fit. 12.5 is quite a bit wider than my current donuts, so that is part of the concern.

Any feedback from the members is much appreciated.

Tell Les Schwab where they can stick their rub and find someone who, like you, can see the obvious, there is tons of room!

too much? I've had a rough morning....

Maybe you need wheel spacers to provide more back spacing. Check into 1" spacers...

There are so manyof us running 315.75R16's with similar liftsand no problems that I would just put them on. Like some one already said if Les Schwab won't do it, then go else where:cheers:

Mine are 315/75-16 = 34.5x12.5 no spacers, no trimming or hammering. I dont have the running boards though.

Same lift and everything here, zero rubbing.

Schwab tried to pull that crap with my 2.5" lift and putting 295's on. BS.

Well after a little encouragement from the forum and a good friend, the rig is down at Big O getting the new rubbers.

appreciate the help. I'll post pics once I have it back and have removed the dork steps.

Good to hear. FWIW my 80 has on 2" Ironman front coils and OME 862 coils which gave a 1" lift and I'm running 315 KM2s. 285/75s fit stock height no problem even with saggy springs.

Just put them on.

I'm on stock springs and 315s. Minor trimming to the rear mudflap areas. Minor rubbing on the front fenders under big compressions.

Light (zero) or medium (2.5") lift will fix that. J springs are way taller...

I've run this set up for years with no rubbing

I put J springs, L shocks, and extended swaybar brackets which I don't know if you did or not. Anyway...tires fit fine. No rubbing at all.

Look into the sway bar brackets, and some people put extensions on their bump stops.

I'm at sea level, and never re-geared either. It's a bit sluggish but adequate. Planning to go to 4:88 gears soon.

Schwab's a hillbilly company that has a bunch of employees who think the only thing that can run big tires is a skyjacker diesel pickup.
They fit fine. I'm running 315's with an OME medium lift and there's plenty of room.

well I finally got the tires on and no rubbing, I wanted to go back to Les Schwab and show the workers they dont' know squat about clearance and tires, but then I decided to go out and check the articulation in stead.

below are a few pictures of Judy with the new tires and recently removed dork steps and a picture on the trail up on Sour Grass (highway 4)

+1

4" Ironman Lift, and I do have the running boards, have NEVER rubbed!

Well.... maybe just a tiny bit on rear during full articulation on the inside wall, but so little that it's not worth mentioning at all!

BTW: I did install a 1" bump stop in the front just to be safe, but I've heard its not even necesary.

The only place a 35 should rib is on the inside of the fender on the rear at full stuff. The fronts should have plenty of room.

BTW. If you're going to wheel that thing, get rid of the flaps or cut them short. They've been known to get ripped off on the trail and sometimes take the flare with them.:crybaby:

Yessssss! Looks awesome.
