Have not seen this on here mentioned before but though i would throw it out there.

Has anyone ever put a spare tire carrier from a fj60 under a fj45 lwb in place of the one that you can not find anymore? I just happen to have one laying around from my 60. A 35 in tire does not fit under there, so had to make a different one one the back end.

Or anyone have any other suggestions ?

Thanks for any suggestions.

havent' done it yet, but i saved the one i took off my 71 pig a few years ago just for that reason.

I think Mudrak has one on his shorty. He cut the diagonal frame gussets out and deflates a 37 inch tire and kicks it up in there. He has on board air which is key for this ;)

I have one off a 60 and a 55, that I plan on installing the next time I have my bed off.

So its not such a bad idea then, thanks everyone.

I happen to have tried something similar to this. The tire carrier mechanism from my 1995 FZJ80 works perfectly under my 1978 FJ45 LWB without any modifications.

I have a couple of spare tire carriers out of FJ55s and one out of a FJ60. The main piece that runs from frame rail to frame rail on the Fj60 is a couple of inches longer than the ones for the FJ55s. I think the ones FJ55s are the right ones for the FJ45LPBs. I also picked up the rod for lowering the spare from the last model FJ55. It was just a little longer than the ealier ones. Stores nicely in the bracket behind the seat that was for the rod used to the crank the engine. I bought the longer one because where I want to mount the spare tire carrier it would reach with the old Confer bumper. The tire carrier from the FJ60 is going in my M416 trailer. It's the perfect size for frame rails on that.
