One more thing..don’t make the mistake I initially made and bought a digital fish scale, by the cheapo spring scale because you need to read the pounds just prior to it spinning free and that’s way less accurate and way more sporadic with a digital.

If you're rebuilding both knuckles and more than likely pulling oil out of the axles when removing the birfs, doesn't it make sense to include checking or changing the diff oil? Newbie here
 
Check the fluid? Yes. Change the fluid? It depends on if it needs it. You can jack/do one side at a time and not lose any fluid if you want to keep it.

If the vehicle has an unknown history, it's probably a good idea to check the knuckle with a centering tool once. Once you know the shims are correct, and you keep them in the same orientation, you don't have to worry about it again. This is especially true on the former front drum 40s, since you know the shims aren't setup by the factory.
