Went to do some much needed tuning today. The 40 has been running/driving but not great, so thought I'd adjust timing and valves. The position of the dizzy didn't allow for any adjustment, so I thought I'd start from the beginning.
Spark plugs pulled, valve cover off. Tried to find the BB for BTDC per manual.
The BB is 180 degrees out. Checked multiple rotations, had thumb over #1 spark plug hole (front most cylinder) and am certain it is 180 degrees out.
The engine has been running this way, though not great. So I'm curious how this happened.
Can the flywheel be installed wrong? Can the timing gears be installed wrong and still manage to have a running vehicle?
Some PO has been in the engine, I'm not sure to what extent, but I have found some things that have made me shake my head...
I'm not sure where to go from here, make my own TDC mark?
