Just wanted to make a comment these tires work okay on dry pavment but in fresh wet snow dam near dangerous as I have now done my second 180 on a 10 degree slope with almost no brake input when the spinout occured.

I am looking at tire rack as my option to buy tires and want to also get a recommendation if thay are a good company to deal with.

Seems thay sell the goodyear MTrs at a VERY compeditive price. . My question is the tire discription is a 31X10.5QR15 What does the Q stand for in this tire? I have a four inch ironman lift so these tires should replace my crapy and dangerous existing tires. The tires that are currently mounted are 235/75 R 15s. Thay are mounted on aftermarket steel cromes wheels. Also will the taller 31s give this cruiser a software ride?

The reason I ask this is because the vehicle has a stiff suspention and now 4 month latter it is starting to soften up but still to stiff.
The front end does not sink much at all even standing on the front bumper and I am over 200bls. Want to consider removing a leaf or two. These are iroman spring designed for the hj60 and not my bj60 but work. I have read that removing the third leaf from the top is the best way to soften up the ride? Comments?

if you want traction in snow and ice then get a proper ice tire or get the MT sipped. the MT is NOT an ice tire and they work adaquate in snow.

remove the 3rd spring and let the pack soften for a year and then replace when it is needed again...

Until you actually have run ice tires in bad road conditions, you really can't appreciate their degree of superiority over a conventional severe winter duty tire.
They don't last more than two or three seasons, and you can't run them in the summer, but they are a lot cheaper than body work. I've run Blizzaks (3 sets) and Michelin Ice, and Alpins, and Nokians - the others aren't up to the performance of the Blizzaks yet. I have 31.5 x 10.50 Blizzaks for my L/C, and didn't put them on this winter. The BFG A/Ts I'm running now aren't even close.

Like Wayne said, a MT is not an ice tire and even siped, they are not as good as conventional winter tire on ice, but will perform in deep snow.

x2 - Jim you tell the truth...

what i did was to buy a set of used tlc 15" rims, this gave me more range of winter tires than 16" rims.

i have 235/75/15 studded nordic trac and they are AWESOME on ice and in snow, lots of sypes / studs and they are also wearing well....

Hey Harvy, My geo's are not winter tires. Just all seasons. Nothing compares to winter tires. I also still don't think my 30's will look even right with your lift. They will look silly as heck.

Watch the de-accel with a BJ, the compression can lock up the tires easy. Just push in the clutch and use the brakes.

Compression braking is nice but can cause you to 360 if you lock up.

How about getting your current tires studded? 40 bucks a tires is what they charge up north. Thats with drilling and plunking them in. Just about any tire can be studded.

.

compression braking only works when there is traction...

we just got a decent little pelting of black ice and snow on friday and i have to say that i am very impressed with my new BFG AT KO's i live in port moody and i was able to drive right up clarke hill with out any problems , i look foward to more snow !

Wayne - That's what the little magic button on the dash is for...just beside the hub button...

Toynut - I'm running 33x10.5's, and they are reasonable winter tires - but they aren't even close to Blizzaks... But being at the coast, it wouldn't be worth it to put ice tires on.

LOL!!!
ah yes the magic "4 Wheel drift" button...
with true ice tires you seldom need to engage that pesky little button...

nice reply

When I was driving down that hill I was in 2wd and was not using the brakes. The speed of the vehicle was driving under the speed limit for conditions. For no reason the tires gave away and I started into a 180 spin out sliding somewhat sideways. Luckily it was slow speed and no traffic involved. Dont worry about the tires. The PO did not have a consistant set and I should have replaced them.

Unfortunaly I dont have a choice where to store a second set of tires. So will have to go with some kind of all season tire that also does good in snow and ice dispite seeing alot of good info on the blizzacks.

Tire rack excepts evaluations from its customers and so far the Kos
seem to be a winner in on and off road performance.

suggestion, take it for what it is worth...

ALWAYS have the hubs locked on "iffy" roads (snow, loose gravel, ice, mud), when encountering adverse section of road engage the frotn drive (this can be done at any speed in a LC with the front hubs locked). should the back end go to pass you then blurp the throttle and the front end should come back in control. practice this in a safe enviroment and you will be impressed with how well it works.

blurp, not mash the throttle...

Crushers thanks for the tips. BTW Cosco can only special order the bfgoodrich All terain TA KO's but might take a week as the tires would be sent from Edmonton to BC and would take a week! Its obvios that because here in Surrey/Delta there is little call for these tires at least thats what the tire sales person said. If anyone knows of a discount supplier of these tires in the lower mainland let me know. Just saw a brand new set on somones toyota truck after leaving and asked how he liked them he said thay were great.

I just snapped alot of pictures of my truck's corrosion and need opinions on how much it may take in time and cost to repair/replace the rusted body parts so stay tuned! When the pics are developed will get them online.
