I have a 71 40 F motor stock carb.

I go to accelerate and it cuts out at about 1/8 throttle but catches back at 1/4 throttle. What should I be checking for?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Okay I must suck at giving symptoms.

Here is what happens if I push down on the gas pedal slowly the motor actually dies. It's like I need to double clutch the gas pedal to keep it running. I hope this helps someone help me.

Sounds like the accellerator pump. Look down the barrel of the carb(engine not running) and actuate the throttle and see if you get a squirt of fuel. If it is there but "late" you can bend the lever that actuates the pump. If you get no squirt, might as well order up a rebuild kit.

Thanks I'll let you know what I find out.

The symptom is "dies when pressing accelerator SLOWLY, runs when pedal is double pumped".
That indicates that the AP is working.

Idles OK, but has a hole when transitioning from idle to main circuit indicates a resrtiction in the idle circuit, or a problem w/ the beginning of the main circuit.

Probably dirt in the slow jet or the primary air jet.

Fix: disassemble & clean.

Where in Minnesota are you? Close to Poser? He's in Farmington.

Ijust got it to idel W/O choke the other night, so I think that's fine.

I just rebuilt it about a year ago,but haven't driven it too much. It had been sitting for 15 years so there might be some varnish in the fuel line has loosened up? I'm going to check the AP to see if there's a delay.

I'm close to Poser, but would like to try to figure it out with your guy's help on my own. If I can't get it on my own I will take down to Posers.

Try some SeaFoam in about 1/4-1/3 full gas tank. It is shellac's worst nightmare;)

I checked the AP when I first start moving the throttle a few drops than a strong stream. That can't be it can it?
